What replacement seats have you placed in your '02?

Classic/vintage parts shopping in Germany has to be awesome. Oddly, I never saw a single classic car on the road while I was on a work exchange in Bonn for three months, though I probably just missed the season (Sept-Dec).

Three weeks in Italy and was looking forward to seeing exotic classics all over the place. Not one! just lots of underpowered crappy little cars and pesky scooters flying around like yellow jackets at a picnic. How disappointing. Oh, but I love my cloth Recaros from the'80s with pop out thigh support.

At least Germany had the car museums. I hit BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Porsche all in 2 or three days. Didn't get to VW since that's up by Berlin. Next time.

OP and Seats: If your seats are in okay condition, I'd wait for some recaros to come up at a price that fits your budget. Brackets are readily available or easily fabricated. Non-Recaro OEM salvage seats seem to be a compromise; sit too high, look out of place, etc. Or go aftermarket. There are some more affordable options that resemble the LX/LS recaros. I almost went this route but my recaros popped up on CL just in time.

My driver seat frame was broken in multiple places, so I was in a rush.

Recaros LX-S- Black Cloth. Love them as a street seat but will probably need something more aggressively bolstered if I get as much track time as I hope to next year. I used brackets from Lee @ Massive. They're very nice.

I installed Miata seats, because I got them for free. My buddy had them in a "55",Chevy, he did not like the way they looked. I made adapters so I could mount them to the existing "02",seat mounts, but I sat too high. So I cut out the existing seat mounts, and welded 1-1/4" square tubing to the floor pan.

IMO, the 1st generation Integra was my favorite.  The seats are very comfortable.  Here is a picture from August 89 of my father-in-law (RIP) of him with my brother-in-law's new 89 Integra.  I later got the car, did lots of work to it and sold it for him in 2004.

These cloth Monza brown Recaros are in my tii.  Very comfortable and more climate friendly than the vinyl/leather seats.

FWIW, Porsche seats (911, 944, etc) from the 70s/80s fit the 02 pretty well, with just a simple fabbed offset plate needed to accommodate their mounts being 1" narrower.

The Porsche "Sports" seats are pretty expensive and are getting harder to find..

I scored these og recaros from this guy: http://www.ebay.com/usr/nut.onlineshop11?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2754 on ebay in Thailand. Took every bit of 8 weeks to get to California but even with the shipping was less $ than 1 seat in the US. Dude was massively thorough with the updates, pics, etc. He says he's shipped them here 100 times.

Adapters and stock sliders. Makes car turn faster.

Here's my situation. I bought my '76 in the year 2002 with the original seats in very serviceable condition with no rips/tears, but not very comfortable, as they had been restuffed once at that point.

I found an entire interior a year or two later via Craigslist SF via a guy who had unfortunately killed his 2002 in a moderate wreck but had recently done his interior with re-upholstored Recaros from a 320is, plus door panels and back seat. I paid $1000 for the set at the time, and have installed the seats (front/rear) but not the door panels yet (keeping my originals with speaker holes, storing the "new"):

Original fronts that went:

Original backs that went:

I've been VERY happy with the upgrade overall. Appearance is A+++ and comfort is A+ with my only negative minor nit-picky crit being:

1) the 320is recaros, even with brand new webbing, have your butt sitting a little low for my particular body geometry (5'11)
2) 320is recaros and rails mean a slight, very slight, offset from left/right center on the steering wheel. if you're OCD or slightly this might drive you nuts. I got over it :)

Cheers

Bringing this thread back from the dead.  After buying a Recaro cloth interior from an MKII GLI and realizing i'd never be able to get them to mount correctly, I traded up to these leather Recaros which i'll be installing this weekend.  I believe they are B6 S4 seats.  I'll eventually dye the red leather to black.  Also looking for a set of e24 rear seats to install.

Not sure I can stomach spending $140 on seat adapters.  Has anyone made them?  Have measurements or a template?

Looks like it'll be comfortable, and I do like the E24 rear seat options as well.

Got my 1st gen Mazda Miata seats from the salvage yard and recovered them with an upholstery kit. Made simple mounts from steel angle iron. I can always redo the brackets in the future and the car can still go back to stock. Writeup is on my blog.

I must have purchased my seats from the same guy - eBay in Thailand.  Seems like you're happy with the seats, so that's good news for me.  I was a little worried about it, but after contacting the guy and getting very quick responses and a bunch of great pictures, I pulled the trigger and got some LSBs.  If they're half a great as they look in the photos he sent, I'll be really happy.  Hopefully they arrive before the end of June.  Can't wait to get them in my car.

I haven't looked, but when I contacted him, he said he was just finishing 3 sets.  So maybe he's got another one or two sets listed.

Had these in my 83 GTI, figured they'd be better suited in the 2002. They originally came out of the Alfa Romeo Milano Verde and I was surprised to find that an Alfa parts house was reproducing the fabric, the rear seat should be back from the upholsterers mid-June, I'll try to follow up with pictures.
