Some of the newcomers may not have heard about this car.

I love 2002's. But if I have $105K of car-shoppin' cash in my pocket, I'm sure as shootin' NOT coming home with a 2002!

For $105K, I can get a car that goes like stink, stops like stink, has today's German engineering, can be driven on my 2,000-mile jaunts without worries about reliability or parts, comes with a 50,000-mile warranty -- extendable to 100,000 miles by the factory -- and can be serviced at the corner BMW, MB, or Porsche shop while I drive their loaner. If this '02 is so perfect, why has it only acquired 2,900 miles in 9 years?

To each his own!

Regards,

Steve

I was going to quibble about little things like the VIN and front and rear treatment, but

then I saw the transaxle.

It's worth it.

I have the older Roundel with this car on the cover (believe Mike Self witnessed the "christening" event).  There are excellent details about Paul's build.  Lots of cardboard templates to try and get this car to work out the way he did using BMW parts.

Would I buy it - no.

Can I appreciate it for all the work, money and thinking that went into building it - absolutely.

Yep, I was there for its unveiling, but it wasn't quite ready to drive yet, so didn't have the opportunity to do so.  But had a great time at the unveiling (literally) party, and crawling all over it to get the details for the Roundel story.  And Paul is a great guy too.  Had a very pleasant couple of days in sunny California back in '06 (dang, was that nine years ago?)...

cheers
