Solex throttle plate screws

Recommended Posts

Hey, any truth to the rumour that the throttle plate screws are interchangeable between Weber and Solex carbs?

I say rumour since I read it on a VW site. Anybody know what thread size they are?

I had to resort to grinding / Ez-out on mine and need some replacements

OK, going to answer my own thread here. The thread, at least in my throttle shafts, is M4 X 0.7. Original Solex screws are unobtainium, Weber screws which are the same size are massively variable in price (up to $4.95 AUD each!) and have a cheese head rather than the countersunk originals so may restrict my top end by about 150hp :)

Bought a pack of 100 button headed Allen bolts in the right size for $8.50 AUD with free delivery.

I am either going to stake them in place with a centre punch / sharp chisel or deform the exposed threads by crushing them with needle nosed vise-grips. They should be a lot easier to get out later (in a controlled manner) with an Allen key.

making all 150 hp???
