It may or may not be the "original color"; but it's absolutely not the "original paint," as advertised:

1.) no 1974 BMW metallic paints survived 10 years, not to mention 42 years,

2.) re-painter failed to paint the rocker panels black,

3.) neither silencer pads nor old glue on the underside of the hood,

4.) all underhood stickers removed and not replaced,

5.) the 4 screws fastening the hood hold-down bar to the support over the heater have been painted (plated from factory),

6.) the black rubber sound deadening mounted to the engine compartment side of the heater plenum has been painted silver,

7.) re-painter failed to paint the hood hinge/horn supports behind front grilles black.

I'm certain there's many more hints, but I believe that's sufficient....

Wild projection here: this car might not sell for $20K!

Regards,

Steve

Plus the carpet is old and the seats look really tired...

And let me guess the motivation behind installing this dirty beige carpeting in this car: it was free!

For those looking to buy and who like this year / color combo, my '74 Polaris Tii will be going up for sale in the spring here in Southern California.

Steve/Conserv: Would you be interested in writing the FS description...? -KB

Writing it, Ken? Maybe not. But I'd be more than happy to comment on it privately prior to its publication!

Best regards,

Steve

For $500 less and much nicer, flags replaced w/trap's (but still over-priced IMHO)...

The flag mirrors did not appear with the square taillight body. They came out around the time of the U.S. '75 models, i.e., late in '74. Therefore, most, if not all, '74 models came with trap mirrors. U.S.-spec cars came from the factory with only a driver's side outside mirror; right-hand outside mirrors were a dealer accessory. But few people added a right-hand mirror to brand new '02's in the first half of the '70s. Dual outside mirrors became popular on new cars just after the '02 era, and many dual-outside-mirror '02's only became thus in subsequent years. So...many outside mirrors have been replaced over the last 40-50 years. Why? 1.) the old mirrors got hit; 2.) the old mirrors deteriorated; 3.) the flag mirrors looked better or more "modern" than the traps; 4.) the flag mirrors were larger and consequently functioned better as mirrors than the traps; and 5.) people assumed the flag mirrors arrived with the square taillight body and thus removed traps from '74's! I would assume trap mirrors are correct for a '74.

Steve
