We've got so many members pointing out every little thing that isn't "correct" when others post pictures of their cars(or parts) that you'd think that they are the most knowledgeable 2002 people in the world.

So why hasn't anyone pointed out that 2016 is NOT the 50th anniversary of the 2002?

Production records indicate that 2002s didn't start to be produced until January 1968.

(I'm no expert and please don't shoot the messenger).

Also, BMW may not officially be calling this year the 50th anniversary of the 2002 with celebrations....interesting fact

I can change back to 100 years on the badge, not sure about the shirt....

Mo

*Edit

The body style e10 could be 50 years but 2002 only would make sense @1968....

'66 was the public unveiling of the '02 as we know it:

http://02forum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=8603

Adding a 2.0-liter engine to the 1600-2 in 1968 was an equipment upgrade, not a new design or car. I'm betting, mac, that you haven't had the pleasure of owning or driving a nice 1600-2? It was ALL there in '66!

Regards,

Steve

March 1966 saw the debut of the BMW 1600 (later called 1602).

January 1968 saw the debut of the BMW 2002, so we can have another celebration in 2018.

January 1971 saw the debut of the Touring, so I can celebrate that (probably on my own in my neck of the woods.

If you have an '02 then any excuse will do.

I try to be a respectful car guy....but just to add I would think that only BMW money men or marketing specialists would be sensative on this subject...

We are enthusiasts & and that should be respected by any company no matter what....I like BMW's new events but anything we try should be part of adding value in some form.

I remain very happy that my 50th birthday is next week (March 2nd, 1966) and the 1600 was first introduced to the public on March 9, 1966

Clean car.

Wrong mirror, though.

:D:P

Jim, are you going to start the Riviera car on March 9?

:D

Cheers,

Ray

Touche', mac!

I don't really buy the 100 year thing, either.

And I can't justify the tow down to Laguna.

So I'm just all sour grapes anyway.
