16th Annual MidAmerica 02 Fest

Twelve 2002s showed up for the Mid America 02 Fest in Hermann, MO.  The fourth edition moved to Eureka Springs, AR and has evolved into a two and a half day event featuring a drive, noncompetitive show, tech presentations, expert panel Q & A, tech quiz, awards (longest distance driven, etc), and a HUGE door prize drawing supported by sponsor donations.

Of course any time 02ers get together technical expertise is not just discussed, but put to work.unnamed (1).jpg  Electrical problem, broken exhaust system, water pump give up, need your tii or Webers tuned - it all happens in the parking lot.  In recent years two owners trailered non-running 2002s to Eureka Springs and with help from others in attendance had them running before Sunday.

There is no registration fee or charge for Saturday evening's brat and burger dinner.

The MidAm is financed by the sale of t-shirts (and other gear) and a raffle drawn from purchased tickets for two sets of embroidered camp chairs (thanks Kathy & Milo) and two BMW watches donated by BMW of NA.

Well over 50% of those attending will drive more than 600 miles.  We have had folks from 24 states.  This is a hardcore bunch.  If you love 2002s, this is a great group with whom to spend the weekend.

I can vouch that this is a tremendous event with a wonderful bunch of '02 nuts. My water pump went on Vern last year, there were two Tii water pumps in the parking lot. Master mechanics rallied to my aid and had me on the road testing for leaks in less than an hour. Asked what I owed for the service, answer, nothing. Earned me the Hard Luck award too.

Attending again this year, worth the 1800 mile trip there. I'm bringing a Tii water pump in the trunk, just in case.

Ah...a picture of Stumpy the Fan--which believe it or not took me to Vintage and back with no problems whatsoever!  But it makes a better trophy than a fan.

Second Andrew (and Vern's) motion--Mid America is a great event, thanks to Bo Black and his entourage!  Not to be missed.

And for you folks from the Midwest and points east, we have a caravan leaving from Dayton on Wed morning, traveling through Cincinnati to Louisville, then west from Elizabethtown KY on the Western KY Pky, which turns into I-69.  From there we're on a short stretch of I-24, then onto US 45 (Purchase Parkway) and 51, which become I-155 to get us over the Mississippi River.  From there it's US 412 to our overnight stop in Paragould AR.  From there it's 412 all the way across Arkansas to its junction with US 62, which takes us into Eureka Springs in plenty of time for Thursday's afternoon parking lot greetings.

We have several rally points for those joining up in en route, and can add others.  If you're interested in joining us, please drop me an IM with your e-mail, and I'll add you to the caravan list.

Cheers

mike

  • 3 weeks later...

What is Friday's schedule?  What time is the tech session? I can only attend that day because of other commitments, and would rather be there for tech since my '02 isn't driveable ( and I get to drive these roads all the time )

Weather looks kinda rainy on Friday in Eureka, but better on Saturday.  Perhaps Bo will run more Tech sessions on Friday?  Who knows?

It's great to be here in Eureka Springs (02-less) after a four year absence. I have missed the fun headed up by Bo, Skip, Keith and many others. It's a pleasure to see the friends that I've made through 2002's (and other BMW's!) once again. A great event for 16 years.... I might have to get another '02.

Great show day, perfect weather, excellent cars, great people, fun quiz, great food, super door prizes and cool awards.

I won the coveted Iron Butt after driving 2,089 miles.

Thank you Bo Black for another outstanding event. Hands down the best '02 only event in the country.
