Spare tire holder downer

The rectangular hold-down fits the early, a.k.a., round taillight, steel rims, and was used through the end of the 1973 model year.  The round hold-down was necessitated by the re-designed styled-steel rims of the square taillight cars.  But...the round hold-down works perfectly -- and does less damage than the rectangular hold-down -- IF you happen to have early OEM alloys.  And I'd bet the round hold-down works well with any number of alloy rims having a small center cap arrangement.

If you're running stock steelies (that accept a full wheelcover) on a round taillight car, and you're also interested in originality, you'll want the rectangular hold-down.  I've found myself swapping hold-downs based on the rims the car is wearing.

The photo below shows an "incorrect" round hold-down holding an early OEM alloy in my '73.

Regards,

Steve
