What color is my car?

That does look like it. Did that ever come on 2002's, or does that mean this isn't the original color? Every surface I've seen on the car is this color, so it would have been an incredibly thorough color change if so.

Send an e-mail to the BMW Group Archive requesting info on your car. All they need is the VIN.

They will respond in a day or two with the date of manufacture, the original color and the original color code.

This is their e-mail address:

Bronzit color came later on the  e30's.

Very common on E28s, too.

John - that first five (get it - top pic) is one sexy Bimmer.

Jim, all three images above are E28s, the 2nd 5er.  The first two show Euro bumpers.  Here's the first 5er, E12:

Yes,  the REAL first five. ..the 76 and earlier e12 with big hood bump and fuel fill in rear.   Nice!

This is what the E30 community thinks of Bronzit.

I even passed on a rare 4 door 5-speed plastic bumper E30 (90% of late model E30 sedans came with automatics in the US market) because it was Bronzit

Not much love for them in the E28 community either, Gordon.  Oh well, my Bronzit '85 535i has been a great car - hope the next owner thinks so, too!

According to the BMW group,  "The original colour was Polaris metallic, paint code 060."

... But that doesn't look like it's the case anymore. Maybe the color change was intended to be close enough to the original to be easy?

It's just as easy to shoot the correct color vs. any other!  The previous owner or his paint shop might have thought that was close enough.  As long as the paint is still sticking and has a shine enjoy it.
