sold new by Auto Europa...that seems to stick in my mind from seeing the paperwork and Scott's history of the car. It was one of the first 02 series cars sold in LA, delivered in July 1967 on special order.

...Auto Europa was gone and Zipper was listed in Beverly Hills.

NE1 wanna check their owners manuals for '70 and '71?

TIA.

It is interesting to note that some of the 1969 dealerships listed were actually motorcycle dealers. Must've had a lot of Isettas and 700s to fix.

the designer/builder came from Lancia.( did I remember that correctly? I know there is a close link between the Dino 6 and Lancia). It was just discussed on the Speed Channel Legends series- the 2 hour Ferrari show is fantastic. Alan gets to drive everything- all the cool vintage/classic/road cars and even the famous race cars on closed country roads in England. It sounds like he really puts the hammer down - funny to watch the chase car try to keep up when he exits a corner, or when he pounces on a straight section. The F cars just disappear for a bit, lol. I wish they would do a BMW show: they have featured Aston Martin, Jaguar, Porsche, and Ferrari, so far. I think BMWs could provide a good show.Certainly BMW is not as esoteric as the Aston Martins.

Also, I think Import Motors(Concord BMW) in Concord had to have started up prior to 1974 as my first 02 was a mid year 71 sold by them.

Glad to see Harry Weber on the list. Ed at Double 02 Service used to work for him.

A friends dad owns a Ferd dealership. Corporate "asked" him to change the name from (family name)Ford to (town name)Ford.

It gives more continuity to the dealer network, and you are not left wondering where Hans & Heinz Motor car und Rader is located.

I just have to wonder how Cal Worthington took to the request to change the dealership names. Or if Ford had the huevos to even ask him.

  • 15 years later...

I found this lic plate frame going through old boxes of stuff in preparation for SoCal Vintage parts swap next weekend. Thought I better look it up to see what it was: this thread was the only thing that came up when I googled it. Too rare to go on the race cars it would seem. Thanks for the info...sixteen years later. Love the FAQ!

That is so cool.

I bought Survivor from a flipper in Washington. The rear plate holder was a vintage Seattle BMW dealer frame that was probably on the car when sold by them in 77. I was stoked. "Seattle BMW" no longer exists it seems.

Had to come back next day with my trailer and pick up the car, it was cold , wet and windy.

Didn't notice until I got back home that the scoundrel had removed that frame. He would not answer my calls or emails.

Still kicking myself over that. Talk about "unobtanium".

After digging through another box I found these. Seems the lic frame and these actually came with MY car originally. I had thought I had collected them along the way from another project and had stuffed them in the attic with other 2002 street car stuff. Glad I'm finally going through all this and getting it organized again after years of moving things around from one place to another it had gotten all jumbled up.

I guess that's why they changed it to Beverly Hills.

Same thing happened with Vasek-Polak, which is now South Bay BMW.

As for your address, I thought this was the case, but I wanted to make sure: That address is now a dealership called Heritage Classics. Check out http://www.heritageclassics.com/

I don't know where they get the cars or how good the restorations are, but you really have to walk through their show room to believe it. DB5s, E-types, 250GTs, every fantasy car from the 50s and 60s (and some more recent) you can imagine. Since I can't afford them, I like to believe they are all perfect.
