The car has an alternator and a 12v style voltage regulator (6v cars had a squarish black Bosch regulator--same as 6V Beetles-- mounted on the radiator support above the battery.  Since all 6v 02s had generators and all 12 v had alternators, then 12v it is.  However, a PO may have converted it--kinda hard to tell as the wires are a bit ratty...

The 1600ti is 15 in from the base of the battery tray.

Thank you, gentleman!

1600ti battery tray = 2002ti battery tray

(And, is that the same height as a 6V battery tray?)

Steve

...are the wheels stamped Alpina?

Ed,

Among the 13" steel rims manufactured by CMR and having triangular cut-outs, none were stamped "Alpina", probably because they were (a.) marketed under the Borrani brand and (b.) really had nothing to do with Alpina.  On the other hand, among the 13" steel rims manufactured by CMR and having round cut-outs, none were stamped "Alpina" even though (a.) they were marketed by Alpina and (b.) Alpina owned the design rights.

Steel rims stamped "Alpina" were manufactured by Lemmerz, although they were 6x14 rims -- with round cut-outs like the CMR rims -- designed for NK applications.

These are triangular cut-out CMR rims, Model R1-528, 6x13, ET17, a.k.a., Borrani's.

And, obviously, a nice little bonus to get with a 1600ti! ?

Regards,

Steve

Met with the owner of the 1600Ti the other day. Helluva nice guy with a great find. Being an old man 02 builder,I'm looking forward to helping in his endeavor. His Ti find is the coolest find I've seen since I bought a 356 roadster in storage in Denver.

1: 6V 1600-2 battery trays. Welded in. I suspect 1600ti trays are the same tray, but with a 12v battery. Low and small. Basically all the same for the remote booster cars.

2: 12V late '67 to end of round taillight production 1600 and 2002. Bolt in trays. May also be same for Tourings, 1802 etc.. Probably the same for rest of world market '02s through the end of square taillight production.

3: 2002ti and 2002tii round taillight. Smaller and lower to clear the air cleaner and longer larger brake booster. Probably the same for rest of world 2002tii '74 and '75 production. Definitely the same in 2002Turbo.

4: US square taillight production, including Tii's. Welded in. Same battery size as the earlier '02.

Different hold downs for each...

oh yes... this car will be built nicely with your help.

I'm surprised how good the trunk looks, no rotten tire well... bodes well for the rest of the car.

What a special car... build blog will be great for us to watch as it's brought back :)
