Attached is a picture of a mystery part to the right of the distributor looking back at the firewall.  The part has two thumb screw terminals.  There is one loose brown wire.  The other one is missing.  I looked through the parts catalog and could not find it.

 

A related question.  Can you guys recommend a reference book (books) that would help with this kind of questions?

Otherwise, if you haven't found them, Mike McCartney's book is very good,

but the Clymers and Haynes also have their uses, especially if you pick them

up for a few bucks.

The factory Blue Books are good, too, altho a bit Germanic

(You Must Have Factory Tool 3454345 To Remove Alternator)

and RealOEM is great for exploded diagrams.
