Things to do in Cincinnati

I am going to be in Cincinnati for a few days this week, for work conference. What things should I make sure I do or see while there? It is okay if it is outside Cincinnati as I will have transportation. I just don't want to miss out and I have never been there.

Spend some time in the Over the Rhine neighborhood (OTR for short), visit Findlay Market, check out Mt. Adams, Eden Park, Oh, and go to FUEL on a Saturday morning for Cars & Coffee (and meet my friend, Jason Gipson, the guy who runs it!), try some BBQ at Eli's BBQ, Eat at Skyline Chili, Try some Graeter's ice cream, visit Jungle Jim's Grocery in Fairfield or Batavia, etc. Across the river from Cincinnati, there is the Hofbrau Haus in Newport, KY. For a German experience in Zincinnati, head to Mecklenburg Gardens in the Univ. of Cincinnati area....  If you're near Dayton, OH, check out the Packard Museum and the USAF museum. There is a Frank Lloyd Wright house in Springfield, OH that I still need to see, but I hear that it has been nicely restored.

GoFaSSter:   Let me know when you're in the area, maybe I can be your guide.... BTW, Jason G. is AKA Eurotrash on this site. He's a hardcore 2002 fan.

Piling on to what Jim said...

There is the American sign museum, which gets raves from designers and history types:  http://www.americansignmuseum.org/

There is the Behringer Crawford Museum, which has some old cars and such:  http://www.bcmuseum.org/

Cincy Art Museum is nice, in a nice spot in Eden Park, and is free:  http://www.cincinnatiartmuseum.org/?gclid=CPuH_6yt5M8CFVc1aQod74kJLQ

If you go up there, you can eat at the old Rookwood Pottery place.

If you are into art deco, there is the Union Terminal/Cincinnati Museum Center.  It is being renovated, so parts of it are closed - you would need to check their site to make sure it is actually open.  If you ever watched "Superfriends" cartoon when you were a kid, the Hall of Justice was based on Union Terminal, which is now a museum.  http://www.cincymuseum.org/?gclid=CKLt046u5M8CFYOGaQodPwoAIA

Also down by the river is the Freedom Center, which is focused on the area's role in the Underground Railroad, and for baseball fans the Reds have a Hall of Fame and museum as well.

Morelein Lager House has a great river view, great locally made beer, and is on the river, so you can walk around down there.  A nice evening would be to go down by the river early/for dinner, then take the streetcar (which is $1) up to the Over the Rhine area - get off the Washington Park exit, and go one block east to Vine Street, get a Holtman's Donut, and see where the night takes you.

We are heading out of town later today - we are just missing you!  Crap!

So, I saw the Packard museum in Dayton. Totally awesome! Thanks for going Jim.

i am staying right by the bcmuseum, so I went there. Small but fantastic.

I I am sitting back in my hotel eating my Holtman's donut. A giant storm came in so my night took me back to shelter.

Thanks for all the great ideas!
