1969 BMW 1600

laguna seca blue

2.0 liter engine from a 1973 2002

5 speed transmission (three case)

short shifter

320 radiator

stock diff

no a/c

new wiper motor

new brake master cylinder

stock brakes

passenger side mirror

rare alloy oem wheels

unk sport springs, shocks and sway bars

newish battery

rear subframe converted to shortneck diff

IE front strut bar

the GOOD (from my evaluation)

engine - it is a 73 2.0l. starts immediately, idles smooth and pulls strong.  no smoke, temp right where it should be.

looked in oil fill cap..head looks very clean, oil clear.

tranny -  smooth in all gears.  shifts perfectly

shifter - tight, no slop, nice!

suspension - tight, handles well

steering - smooth, no slop.

complete interior

rear shock towers solid

rockers solid

euro turn signals

all the trim is there

momo steering wheel

original restuffed seats in decent shape

looks like nose was replaced (no rust there)

door panels in decent shape and not cut for speakers

some sort of nice stereo hanging under dash

rear subframe mounts look ok from inside the car.

no visible evidence of accident damage

original keys

seems like everything worked...turn signals, wipers, lights, gauges, etc.

the BAD (again, from my eval)

paint - supposedly stripped to metal and painted 7 years ago, but paint is coming off all horizontal surfaces.

rust bubbles in paint

rust in engine compartment back left corner

frame rails...sigh...pretty much gone.

door skins may need replacing

original engine and trans long gone.

my opinion: it ain't "numbers matching" but this one is worth saving.  lots of great parts, early 1600, works great.  it will have to have frame rails replaced to become a driver, needs repaint and the surface rust fixed.    -or- if you have a good shell, this car has everything to complete the entire car.

I DO NOT need another project car, or I might have picked it up.

asking price is $4500 obo

questions about the car.....send to me as I probably know more about it than the owner.  if you are serious, i can hook you up directly with the owner.

I spy the "race" E46 touring in the first picture.

lol...that car now has two consecutive track weekends on it.   the slushbox is not happy!   and i just had to replace 5 of 6 coils.  for a total slug on a stock suspension, the handling was not bad.  but have i ever mentioned how these cars are the worst engineered and built cars bmw ever did?  ::D
