Anyone here own 2377285?

For some strange reason, my 69 2002 had some manuals that were from this car (and of course I don't have the original 69 manuals). 

 

I have the Service booklet showing the registration for the original owner (in Glendale, AZ) and date of first registration 3-4-76.  The pre-delivery check and 600 mile check up was done by Acure Motors in Ann Arbor, MI (!). The next (5) services were also done in Michigan.  The 37,500 and 44K mile checkups were done at Camelback BMW in Phoenix, AZ.

 

I also have a receipt from Discount Tire in Phoenix AZ dated 8-27-99 for (4) BF Goodrich radial T/A tires size 175-70R-13 ($ 30 each!).   There is a handwritten note on it that says "Silver 76 BMW"). Name and address on the receipt withheld.

 

I've submitted an e-mail to the BMW Archives to see what I'm dealing with.

2377285 was on Ebay May 2004 and was in San Francisco then.

The Ebay Seller's ID was "hosking360" and (did a quick check) is still valid.

You could try and communicate with him/her to see who bought it.

Email received from BMW archives (Julia is so quick to respond!):

made 12/12/75. Then on to Hoffman Motors 12/18/75

 

Original color Polaris metallic code 060.

 

Original owner was R.E. Sheperd in Glendale AZ.  Interesting the  first registration not until March 4, 1976. Mileage at predelivery check was 285!  44k service in Phoenix was done on 10/17/78. Last recorded service was 81,820 miles on 12/14/82 at Camelback Porsche Audi BMW in AZ. Quite the history on a car I don't own.

 

AZ Tire receipt shows person named Tait Nielsen. Mileage was 33,651 on 8/27/99.  Wait- something isn't right!! Well I guess it would most likely be 133,651.

If it was manufactured December 12th, it probably reached the dealer between January 23rd (6 weeks) and March 6th (12 weeks), depending on all the usual variables.  I don't know if Arizona cars had a Houston Port of Entry (POE) or a West Coast POE, such as Los Angeles (through the Panama Canal).  Either way, it wasn't sitting on a lot as long as the manufacturing date suggests.

 

The delivery mileage does sound as if it had more than a few test drives or was possibly used briefly as a demonstrator.

 

Anyway, how the heck did its service book wind up with your '69?  Hint: make something up!

Built 22 Dec '75, but, not del'd until 5 Apr '76.
