Swapped out the 15x6 Panasports for the 13x6 Borranis and Pirelli CN36s today. Borrani set up is 1.25" taller and 1 pound lighter, despite being steel versus alloy. They ride great!   Thanks

Hang fire team!   There are more 185/70R13 Cinturato CN36 on their way. I still don't beleive that anything else is as good for your cars as road tyres. I think i should have more, hopefully

I was so used to motorcycle world I thought, "Oh I probably need tubes too." So Lucas said, "Yes please purchase $75 in tubes."


Spoiler Alert - they're tubeless. 

Their line was they often sell tubes to folks who run wire spoke wheels with CN36s. I have absolutely no idea how they came to that conclusion after I specified I needed them on E21 BBS wheels. Anyways, beware the upsale.

Looks fabulous!  On 5 1/2" Alpina steelies, I'm presuming?  Rolled fender lips?  Any rubbing or body contact whatsoever?

Yes, 5 1/2 Alpinas.  No fender modifications.  The fit in the rear is pretty snug, but no rubbing so far.  The guy that mounted them told me to put a dead body in the trunk and go for a hard drive to make sure nothing rubs.  I haven't gotten around to that yet.

Just like that, 13" wheels are sexy again. Not that the problem was ever the wheels, but now there's an alternative to S-rated "Mighty Lion City" all-seasons and the like. That ti is absolutely gorgeous. Amazing. And I completely agree with Ed, it's the period-correct stance--and tread--that really completes the look.

 

I love my 14" 2000CS wheels. But I don't really love the Sumitomo all-seasons that are on them now, and given the paucity of good 14" rubber now (I know, there are still a couple of options in 195/60 Falkens and 185/60 Dunlops, but they're dwindling), that set of Opel Kadett tii-clone 13x5 steelies on the rack in the garage are now calling my name.

 

Unfortunately, my Sumis are full-tread and only two years old, which makes it REALLY hard to justify dropping $600 on mounting a second set of tires for a car that doesn't roll more than 2,000 miles a year. I hope these Pirellis are still around when mine age out!

FYI, they are making CN36's in 185/70-14 and 205/70-14, so you have options as well for your 14's, the 205's are just about 200 GBP each though.  Folks running Ferrari 308's and BMW CS' have to be happy about those sizes being available again.....

 One more question. Am I to believe that members ordered them from the UK and it was free shipping? Right now they're 108 English pounds each...

Yes, Longstone Tyre ships free, and quickly, to the U.S.  They seem to be cheaper if you purchase them in Euros or U.S. Dollars, rather than denominated in U.K. Pounds.  (Illogical?  Yes, but anything denominated in Pounds seems to translate into larger amounts.  When the Euro first dropped precipitously after Brexit, buying in Euro's was a steal for U.S. buyers: I got an new 165HR13 XAS for $180 delivered!  It would have been $240 delivered from Coker.)

 

Noisy?

 

Every 2002 I've ever owned has been pretty darned noisy, but then all of them have been dead stock.  (Full disclosure: OK, maybe not "100% dead stock": I did put an Ansa rear "muffler" on the '70.)  Cruising at 70 mph, revs are roughly 4,000 rpm's.  So the tires would have to be really noisy to hear over the engine and wind noise!  Unless, of course, you've turned your '02 into a Lexus with Dynamat...

 

So, no, I don't have any first-hand knowledge of how noisy the Cinturato's are.  But I need to be in one of my (modern, highly-engineered) "alternative" vehicles to notice tire noise (e.g., the Nokian Hakkapeliitta snows I run on my E350 wagon are noticeably noisier than the summer-month Michelin Pilot Sports).

sounds good. I'm so glad they re released these tires. Choices for 13" before were dismal unless you wanted to drop stupid $$ for the Michelins

 

I might do some dynamat/dynafoarm to my doors and behind the back seat. Couldn't hurt as long as I don't use a whole roll

 

Funny you should mention Hakkas'. I got the same tire for winter for my E46 330xi.

 

 I consider them relatively quiet for a full blown snow tire. I barely notice them even at 80.... I love those Hakkas!!! They go through anything

I just want to add that I'm amazed at the price and service from Longstone.  After reading about them here on the FAQ, I ordered a set of CN36s for my 73 Tii.  I placed the order on 8/1 and they arrived in CA on 8/10.  I don't understand how they can do that at a profit, but I'm thankful.  

 

I'm having them installed tomorrow, I'll be back with a performance report.

Mine are not noisy at all and I am coming from a modern set of Michelins - no difference.  Great in the rain too (unfortunately found this out also).  Mine arrived in 3 days from Longstone.  Oh, and they're awesome to look at B)
