Pirelli Cinturato CN36 Tires

2002#3

Recommended Posts

I have 185 x 70 CN36's on the FPS dealer option 13" wheels.  These are supported by H&R Sport Springs (and a 3/4" drop in height), ST Sway bars and Koni Sports.  Bilsteins were not to be found in 2018.  What I have is an excellent handling car for a 1970's car with a significant reduction in the body lean.  This makes for a very fine driver car.

You needn’t make any excuses for Koni’s, David!

Koni’s are not “second best” to Bilsteins. They’re simply a different type of shock, one that many people prefer, once they’ve tried both. And both have their strengths.

Brand names come and go in terms of popularity. Today, Bilstein is IN! In 1975, I might have said Koni was IN! I’d guess that anyone who looks down on Koni’s has probably never spent much time with Koni’s.... ?

Best regards,

Steve

I am very happy with how the suspension worked out!  It is improved and handles without the body-roll of a stock suspension.  1970's style tires will keep you on your toes!

Here it is after the suspension work in 2018 you can see the slight drop in height.  It is currently in for a re-paint and re-assembly with Midwest 02 Fest in the plans.

Well, I’m happy enough with my CN36’s on my tii to order a set for my Turbo. Baby needs new shoes.

And ditto re: Koni’s. I remember putting adjustable Koni’s on my new 1973 Capri 2.6.  They were definitely “in”.

For those who bought from LongStone Tires recently, did DHL require you to fill out the "Declaration" customs document?

If so, what boxes did you check and what info did you put down? Seems a bit more involved than it needs to be just to buy tires.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I didn’t, and to get them shipped from CA instead of England was ridiculous.

No, I didn't have to do anything on my last Longstone to California shipment.  But with current exchange rates, Lucas is cheaper (even with sales tax) and certainly faster, so I bought a set this week from them.

How about the Michelin XDX's?  They look awesome, but at a price $$.  I've thought about it, but haven't had the cash to pull the trigger...  They do look great though...

185/70R13 TyresMichelin XDX is a high performance tyre. 185/70R13 Michelin XDX is the ideal tire for Alpine A310 (front), BMW 2002 Tii, Fiat 124 spider, Opel Ascona, Opel Manta. It is also a low profile tire that can be used instead of a 165R13. This tyre could also be fitted to cars like Ford...

They look cool, but I  can't see putting 1/5th the price of my 02 into one of the most frequent wear items. I don't even pay that much for 10 ply rated off road tires that are like twice the height. The CN36 is about my limit for suffering for fashion. Maybe if I had 02 turbo money I wouldn't mind it.
