Here’s some flicks of my 02’ I took out the interior already it was shot no reason to keep it. I’m not going with an expensive wheel. I’m reusing the wheel I had in my e36. Many memories with the e36. Keeping the wheel as a reminder of those times and that car. It’s all about the driving and memories for me and I can respect others disagreement.

I ended up restaining the wood part of the steering wheel and I had the original badge milled into the horn button. The guys I had do the machine work did an excellent job. To me it looks like it was meant to be. 98223e09930527639b122d3da3d57025.jpg&key=b362622163a2d65317c47c54b2b11489ad550d59b41e715b74736f6f8b8a2b077415cbd335d3c3a1b8c1aa8957c246b2.jpg&key=6912aeea9606010a9ab1008e093c6fe2ad8662958849cf73e4119292fe3da65d

I'm taking the time I have while the car is out being primed and painted to get a few of the smaller things done.
Detailed the kidney grills, started dying the Interior and removed tint.
The stuff I dyed didn't photograph very well but they came out perfect. It looks like I just picked them up from an upholstery shop. f507e9075737b86caa85880561b2460e.jpg447521598c484b89a5a4c36495e778b9.jpgdcad7d6542c2bc5b52294729960afd5e.jpg116b0d32fa5591c82503df773d4a3d5b.jpg0b8528be8dce2c193dede5d315828f10.jpgdde5bb4da541269e028cb66d423ede7b.jpg449cf8680d8326914a1b92aa60df279c.jpg3f081b819adb1a1d41317a1aae96c712.jpg4443998c04cfc20f6448efa03457770d.jpg36088882138bb199a623828212960004.jpg012bbed9904bb15a7bd7340c55f84a95.jpg257f1ef5bdbfd7e0b0f854a93cb0fbd4.jpgbea9d620bd320db3be3b9b904799f4c5.jpgf5bb3f8d0fd52988153de69d758d9d1a.jpg

The o2 finally came back from paint prep... Unfortunately it took forever but I guess that's just the way it goes sometimes. The final bit of bodywork came out really well. There were a few spots I noticed that still need to be addressed but I'll let the paint shop handle that. The guy that did the final prep took forever so I don't want him on it anymore. I'm gonna get the rest of the interior pulled out then it's off for paint!!! 20180527_125516.jpeg20180527_124542.jpeg

I did a fuse box restoration and it paid off immediately. I put everything back together, hooked the battery back up, turned the key and my frigiking air conditioner started blowing! That may not sound exciting but it has never worked before. Not cold but a step in the right direction.20180529_215031.jpeg71593059514482dd4b26a114d237f6ab.jpg

I just read trough these posts , and it just shows you that you don't need some crazy amount of money to get a nice classic car, not a show car , not a trailer queen , just a fun little project , without it beeing a rat rod either. It gives me hope , and makes me feel better about the fact that I bought one.

I 2nd that about the "journey, not the destination". Yes, I am definitely looking forward to actually driving / using the 02 but I do legitimately love rehabbing this car...
Speaking of which, I have been making some progress while awaiting my turn for paint.
I pulled the Instrument panel to replace a few bulbs and ended up dismantling it and detailing everything. It thought it looked good but once I had it out and looked close you start to see the 40 or so years of grime. 20180604_231617.jpeg20180604_231706.jpeg
I broke down the front seats and dyed them.20180601_144300.jpeg20180601_144359.jpeg20180604_171101.jpeg20180606_094543.jpeg I prepped primed and painted the seat hinges, emergency brake handle and the instrument panel bezels. I painted them matching body color but that hasn't been disclosed yet so you won't see final pics of those.20180618_113901.jpeg20180618_115408.jpeg20180618_121909.jpeg
As I get closer to paint I'm starting to mock things up and go through everything just to make sure it's all the way I want it before it's to late. I got the doors mounted last night and went to mount the trunk when I realized that I had never cleaned up the trunk hinges... So today I sand blasted and wire wheeled them down to nice bare metal and primed them.20180620_131117.jpeg20180620_140815.jpeg

I also installed an Ireland engineering coolant hose kit. 20180614_092230.jpeg

That’s the bit I like the most, is taking small parts, cleaning them up, straighten them out, a shot of paint, lube, reassemble... ahhh bliss (I need to get another car).

Finally got the 02 off for paint!
The shop I had lined up for paint pushed me back several times so I ended up going with another place that had a spot open for me so that felt good to finally drop it off.
I also got the instrument cluster all put back together. The metallic contact material had worn off of the board that powers the bulbs. After adding a few jumper wires all lights were working well.
The blue lights may not be for everyone but I like it. 534f1a0dee8cfac6f83298c17fce1a34.jpg8ae4f2c0a4743bcfa9012b2e4786b7be.jpge8735333fab45fa7c6790640d1c4e78b.jpga94da380bc92efc77ae1f07a266d05ee.jpga10cc624d2d1feee820f150f26262d82.jpg

Detailed and polished the tail lights and some metal bits. Also cleaned up and repainted the license plate holder. It was in pretty rough shape. It turned out OK but I'll probably pick up a nicer one down the road. 78e23846dae21ba46046b673e7da3405.jpg603877b6e397e4c959fc7b13390297b0.jpgdd6e57abc19598cbe3c47bddff0ba062.jpg80c2b49a472b6bb9c39e56b1984a7265.jpg7cba24c09ad191a1df24cfde0df1d798.jpg80d78107b02643666c7cdd1082fa914b.jpgb4ba41826883d10f676b50e43dbd50ee.jpgfa41e01547c5453bac0b46318572f1c4.jpgaa894f895b26e64482f37654125e61e8.jpg
