Any input for a 2002 newbie

Nice work. I'm curious what product you used on your seats to go from black to tan. My upholstery guy recommended a product called Sims Upholstery paint. He said it was actually special paint in a spray can.  Also did you have any trouble taking the seats apart? I'll be going from black to dark blue. Thanks

Eric

This is the product I used. It had lots of great reviews. A new interior was in future plans anyway so if it didn't come out good it wasnt a huge loss either way. I'm very happy with how it turned out... Just need to see what longevity is like after I actually start putting some seat time in the car.

I'm not sure show well it would work going from black to blue though. Probably worth testing on an inconspicuous area to find out.

Got a new trunk seal installed along with a new set of door brakes I bought from another member in the group.
The old door brakes were more like broken door brake parts being stored at the bottom of the door.
Not a ton of progress but it's 2 steps in the right direction. 20180814_154341.jpeg

Good stuff man . I saw a video on YouTube where a guy was showcasing his 02 . He said it had been driven stock for a short period of time , and had turn into a five year project. From my point of view the car looked completed , but to him there was always something that needed to be done or improve on. As long as you don't stop working on it you are doing good. (Where did you get this seal BTW)

I bought a uro seal set off of ebay that included door seals, front and rear glass, rear quarter windows and trunk seal. I think the whole set was only $340. I would have preferred the oem seals but they just weren't in the budget.
Since the last post I have been making some more progress.
I've installed the front grills, turn signals, taillights, hood and trunk torsion bars, a new set of trapezoid mirrors and I got the new headliner in today. The headliner isn't perfect but it is way nicer than the original one that crumbled if you touched it and had several holes in it. I had a shop lined up to install the headliner but at the last minute they doubled the price on me... I wasn't really a fan of that so I decided just to order one for $110 and give it a shot. After it sits for a few days with the clips on it I'll go over it with a heat gun and see if it takes a few wrinkles out.
It feels really good to finally see this thing coming together. 57a636259293ec09f850527e1593e614.jpgad5e18835420353a03d5ad9367b50ef6.jpg7be122e10adbbd099392dba1f7a8b1ce.jpgced1f86be688d8a91d2a6a3057462059.jpg49e08bb6a07da67b9e51a1b15830c9be.jpg7bbdfb692920532d248ff60660eb282f.jpg

It was a good thing you did the work yourself , it look good so far. Its not even my car , yet i'm getting so exited just looking at it coming together . Mine is being tare apart right now , I'm emptying the engine bay , and trying my best not to mess up any of the electrical wiring . while taking pictures for future reference. I think i have taken too many pictures ?. Keep us updated with the progress.

I'm getting closer to actually having a usable car!

Over the last 2 days I've installed all the glass, door handles and one door seal.

The back glass which was original went in super smooth. The locking clip definitely put up more of a fight than expected but It wasn't too bad. The first rear quarter window seal was kind of a pain for a while until I got the hang of it (and the proper tools) and after that the second was a piece of cake. The front windshield I bought was a fayou brand. I've heard that they are a little thinner but I figured I would take a chance on it. It is significantly thinner. It has a nice laminate coating on both sides so I think it will hold up well but It made install a little more time consuming trying to adjust the seal to get it to hold properly. All in all I think it will be fine but I would not recommend that brand. 5f9b404d8f34cf722cc21ac8a78b6a65.jpg&key=54bd5f08a3e4208009bfb9f86b2d8863da974087f44e9aae3b9904786993c82ecf55d11edae7e1066901dda16a1ac6a7.jpg&key=62abd73fd6fee9646c3685fb52633486f9e8d5e1f6c131a62306cf592ab8b395eb56bff8da66c9bd894354f75eed7469.jpg&key=f645e40db2f547525d94577264148b554eba1493da5ca014764612bbee298736

So Friday I was able to get the majority of the Interior installed along with some other random bits necessary for road use and I actually drove it home from my shop!
When I got home I gave it a much needed bath after being reassembled in my cabinet shop for the last couple weeks.
Once it was nice and shiny again I took the wife and kids out for a cruise!
My neighbor talked me into going to a small car show Saturday morning with him and his 79 corvette which was pretty fun. There was a guy there who was super into 02's and had a 2002 shirt on and his son had a 2002 pin on his hat so that was pretty cool. He seemed to approve of my car so that felt good!
I must say that it has been a very long year getting it to where the car is now and it was worth it all. I have been in it all weekend and I really do love driving this little thing. After the weekend of driving it feels so good compared to the first 30 second drive I took when I first cleaned the carb before doing anything else mechanical wise to it last year (almost no pickup, barely any brakes, and basically no ability to control it because of disintegrated suspension and steering components). After everything mechanical I've done it now runs like a top and handles like a new go cart (although there will always be room for improvement of course[emoji6]) . I'll probably only make one more progress post to this thread this upcoming week once I finish installing the interior so it can be a start to finish restoration story. 7726d9be87896bee5dc8ddca7a3cb555.jpg796ec59c72f4d9a7ab176d1922f9da70.jpg0c5b68216ee1042b556839eb31ca7ade.jpgae5618a45a871a88a6d59cb759276b37.jpg115d401d8b4bd53948024a48a0155dc2.jpgac6416e475c25cfa16cdb12df9669f3e.jpg6ab81ca3ca108b107adc3ed87d50b598.jpg314744cbeb18cfb734e9bd1a0d1e7c79.jpg
