Any input for a 2002 newbie

to get the full effect, you'll want to plumb the cut-out into the cabin
Well that's not very nice... Suggesting that I kill myself because I made my car different than yours... Really?
Perhaps you should pull that oem stick out of your @ss.

Can you tell us what the out-of-the-box jetting of the 38/38 is?
I really wish I could right now but I was lazy and never opened it up to check because the spec sheet said it was pre tuned for a stock 2002 M10 motor. As soon as i get caught up with the build a little more ill open it up and look. It does perform very well but I'm sure there's room for improvement. It makes me smile ear to ear though!

I'm interested too to see how it works out for you. I have also seen the multiple threads on difficulties with the 38/38 and it made me a little leery of doing that to mine. My concern would it be at risk for over being "over carbureted" with standard valvetrain, manifold exhaust etc.. If yours is "Plug and Play" that would be awesome.

PS: I think Mintgrun was just "giving you the business" as Wally Cleaver would say to his brother..The Beav...

it has nothing to do with OEM purity;

nor wanting your car to be like mine.

I did push your buttons on purpose, because loud exhausts push mine.

Death by asphyxiation had not occurred to me, honestly; so please don't take it that  offensively.

I've lived on the ferry run for twenty years now and the steady pulse of traffic has me somewhat sensitized.

Your thread title asks for "Any input for a 2002 newbie", so I gave mine.

Rudely?  Maybe.

To me, a really loud vehicle is a rude way to get your jollies.

That's all.

I'm dun.

I honestly wasn't even thinking of doing the 38/38 upgrade because of all the trouble with tuning I've read about also. I was just strolling through Craigslist when I noticed the complete kit that was "supposedly" pre tuned for a stock 2002. It was such a amazing deal and the guy was only 15 minutes away from me that I couldn't pass it up. I figured even if I didn't like it I could just sell it and make a little $ . my stock manifold port was already big enough to clear the butterflies at the bottom so I didn't need to hog it out and I didn't want to waste the time installing the new manifold in case i didn't want to keep it. I literally just bolted it on, bypassed the water choke, capped off a few vacuum lines/ports and it fired up in two seconds. I dont even have a choke wired up for it yet. I came in this morning while it was still cold out and again, it fired up instantly with zero effort. The car can now spin tire from a start every single time without even trying (not that I would ever do that though[emoji6]) .
Ill attach a couple pages from the paperwork that came with it saying that it should work well for a stock 02'!

And on the other note, im really not affected by any rude comments by anyone. I'm an adult. I don't let people on the internet get me worked up. Yes, before I even picked up this car and had never even looked twice a 2002 I was a newbie and asked for input about my purchase/upcoming project... That is still the title of this thread(which has turned into my resto thread) and Ill still take all input, positive and negative! And if I drive by you in traffic and my exhaust annoys anyone please feel free to roll down your window and shake your fist at me in dis-approvement (or your middle finger! It's your choice!) 33e92520ea8c4eaef66c8fcf3f7e5978.jpgf0cfb5152ebd079374196089012749b3.jpge335f82b7450048ba3f4c914fe1765c2.jpg141ca1ab6b1a92fb0346d73faffc1e88.jpg

So today I installed new speakers behind the rear seats and in the front under the dash. I still need to wrap the new panels with black vinyl but I'm gonna remake the rest of panels under the steering column and I'm out of bendable plywood so that will have to wait. I also installed a Bluetooth radio I pulled from a car I flipped a couple months ago along with a concealed antenna that goes in the dash so I can delete the one mounted outside the car(yes, another delete!) after the radio and wiring were done I decided to fix the floppy shifter base. The plastic that holds it to the car had broken so I infused some Cabinetry into it. I made a line where the outside of the shifter base was and then I screwed down a piece of wood on each side of the base then I drilled through the base and attached to that way. I ended up replacing the screws running up the console with silver ones at the same time. I think the end result came out looking pretty sharp and now the base is Rock Solid. It doesn't flop back and forth when shifting. After that I started detailing the inside and wow, This thing is cleaning up really nice! My long plan was to convert the interior to Black including the carpet and now after seeing the condition of this carpet it's going to make it really difficult for me to tear it out and throw it away.25e8453bbc6cb9bcc9feaebed0846080.jpgf148db833f7add56d42770cb136eb5fb.jpgdf1a044b920d13891828f17dccdc5317.jpg501c4adba7751c8ecbb243c1643e920e.jpgc43bb7be17c37208e2a28691818e9c34.jpg86c54f7e3b96e079ca96180b2bbc6ec0.jpga36324327d6cace2b7f3d2cd162db05d.jpg627f627e404aefa8a4be8f67a386e0fc.jpgde85ec9e05e2526e501b2ec60ca5c65a.jpg

I did a "catuned inspired" bumper tuck today. I didn't think I was a fan of these big bumpers but apparently if you cut them up and tuck em up against the car they're actually kind of attractive! I still need to do the back but the rabbit fenders just came in so I'll probably start working on those next.855f65ec0239225d5e931c617b4abd0d.jpg632fd42e441587a4a97cb78446609926.jpg3868659d81838cb513b62b5330937583.jpg885855ecabe8a5aa479c881ab18650a7.jpg849499e9dba46aa8d2d950787692dcdb.jpg86a3d6c2fd4f110d9b6e8c249a395e98.jpgcc227ad54fff700f3735d077d6603d0d.jpg

Finished jazzing up my "craigslist special" wheels for the 02.
After a while I will hunt down some nice bbs wheels but until this car is complete I'm in thrift mode... Got these basically new wheels with newish tires for only $160, plus $18 for a set of center caps plus another $10 for some plasti dip and another $2 for some matching ebay valve caps and for under $200 I have some decent looking shoes that will hold me over a while!
Also go the first rabbit fender tacked on...of all the stuff I "can do" welding sheet metal is not something I've done a lot of so this will definitely be some good learning experience... It's my car so in the end if I need a little more bondo than a pro would I think I'll survive.

That center console is beautiful; probably best I've seen yet - very neat!

What the bottom peace with the two nobs?
Thanks man! It's a Frigiking ac unit. One day I'll try to mess with it and see if i can get it to blow cold but I have until next summer before I start thinking about that.

Got the second rabbit Fender installed today. This one took a little longer because the rear fenders are double-walled So they had to be tacked together before the new Fender could be welded on and there is a nice layer of some sort of flammable sealant or foam or something between the walls so that was a pretty slow process. all the write-ups and videos I've read and watched have really only discussed and shown the front fenders being done so it took a bit longer than expected to get the back Fender placed but I think it turned out okay. Now that I have one front and one back installed I can go ahead and order wheel spacers and get those on the way.b3ac1397ed2139076af312a7c598d1c1.jpg226efa6c278fae58943bcb781db12202.jpg70768b52e2ce23e190e8d52d71e63bff.jpg

All 4 fenders are finally on. I still need to come back through and stitch weld some more and clean up the transitions in the back but im very close to done with those.
The rear drivers side ended up needing a bit more attention because it turns out that this car has been in a mild accident so the panel had about a 3/8" of body filler on it. I got rid of that and used a slide hammer to pull the panel back out to normal. It was my first time using a dent puller to actually pull dents which was pretty fun. I also went ahead and repaired the rusted hood nose. It was only 30 minutes from the time I started making the patch to What you see there. 484adb6e3f459cae48b6e332fea31ed5.jpgf7f916b60e9dceebcd46aaad0d21cf8b.jpg740e46cc2a6d9c7a38b4b8076d749281.jpgd473f281e9c2d1f9832312bc895662d8.jpga0a61355c88a446d7e1d5409a8843d5e.jpgac8c3c3c9502ac527cfd3b1967df9ac9.jpg640c1537bcbc76027f8f4c1967ab1613.jpg0129148393f56713aa1b261b4e2cf241.jpgbfa7e9efce5b622c74c6248201a12dcf.jpg309a8dcb7b3066be0b54d713691188c1.jpg

I'm trying to just consistently keep on top of this thing, knocking anything I can out while I'm near it. I know if I take a break from working on it I'll end up pushing it to the side and it'll never get done.
I've done a bit of everything at least a few times but body fab/ sheet metal work I have basically no prior experience in doing. Lucky for me it's not much different from anything else, just a different material.
My nephew had off of school today and he's been wanting to do some metal work so I brought him with me today and gave him a tutorial on how to use all the tools and let him have at it. He ended up making this T-Rex and begged me to let him weld it onto the front of the 2002!...while it does look cool and I was proud of him for making it, it's just doesn't fit the look I'm going for.
Needless to say it wasn't the most productive day but I did manage to get a little done. I tied In the rear fender bottoms and repaired the last rust spot on the passenger door. I also started repairing the rust spot behind the front passenger wheel well. Not completely done but closer...8239f1975dc8ecf928c25513333fef5a.jpg17d23a0014c9ade4d8e75e5cfaa83ba1.jpg347c9af1b7d1d552c16a1ba42c132bb0.jpgfdcd9ef26719b15dc9cc4493dcf6b8de.jpg9828ef0c852d179f13aabe25c78a119b.jpgddce2dfe3368e0daac50c69ace80d06e.jpg5830e0b8b2224e7996b74c5100a0e440.jpg
