What did you do to your 2002 today !

Finshed fixing my Heater franken-box. A couple dozen rivets, al-sheet, sikaflex, valve bracket fabbed, some paint, new insulations to flaps + other places, cables trimmed etc. Huh! Wouldn't want to do it again anytime soon.

I still haven’t put mine back in after rebuilding/upgrading it a few months ago. Still thinking of installing a restomodair ac unit.

Spent the weekend going through the car. Meant to do a lot, but kept running into larger issues. I changed some vacuum hoses and ordered some of the last parts for my budget big brake build. Did manage to start cleaning up my trunk panels, but ran out of vinyl to complete the job.

Ended on a low note, found some serious rust that is going to be dealt with shortly. Not really what I wanted to be putting time and money into, but I want to make sure the car is structurally sound again.

Removed the front grills from my '74 Tii.  They are the plastic ones.  Cleaned them up and ArmorAlled them.  With the grills off I found a little rust patch on the hood brace below the horn.  Wire brushed the rust, coated with Extend rust neutralizer and painted with semi gloss black Rustoleum.

Cleaned the horn with a scotch brite pad to remove the 44 years of grime that had coated. Assembled all and called it a morning. This killed a couple hours while my wife was off shopping.

What did you use for sound deadener? Did this also act as the water barrier or did this go on top of some other plastic sheet? About to do this to mine.
Thanks,
Baron

FWIW I used regular sound deadening and a roller.  It has worked really well.

I used Raamat from raamaudio to deaden the panels then used ensolite over top of that. You can google it. Or search in this forum. Raamaudio says just pitch the plastic. I’ll have a good bit left of my material to post on “parts for sale” when done but might not be available until October. Good luck!

rehab done on my 'new to me' steering wheel

got it from @VintageAutobahn as part of a mini-haul of early model parts

we had to check a few for different diameters ... i chose the largest one...

this one was near-perfect ... and has a '69 date stamp

it had a faux-leather wrap which likely protected it a bit

truly crack-free ... just a bit of rust on the horn wedges.

SO...

i took the horn mechanisms apart,

opened the metal tabs to be able to pull the metal housings off,

stripped them of rust,

repainted with rustoleum,

rebent the tabs and re-installed

check for electrical connections

very happy with the simple project with simple results

this is the only part of the car i'll be touching with bare skin ... so i want it to count!

cheers

geoff

Today I installed an electric trunk popper kit. I made a frame for it out of some sheet metal. I don't have a trunk key so I figured I should probably have some way to open it. cad03a04e1df1442f735911e1c240708.jpg379c718829340d0897fc011be506d990.jpg1ff2aed7a5afdeecbb3f47c5caf07e86.jpge3550b9c739c8002acc5ea75bd7ce979.jpg

I need to get around to this someday (I have remote operated locks with provision for a trunk opener). Did you use the kit that someone on here used to produce or is that home grown?
