Chamonix ‘73

I harvested the drivers fender mount from the parts car only to find it looked like Swiss cheese after blasting. I folded up a new one and welded in the “nuts” from the harvested mount. I used an OEM fender to align everything before welding.

I finish welded the door door hinges after attaching the fender.

Then it was time to move onto the upper fender mount. I’m happy to report that there were no mammal carcasses nor major rot hiding below the fuse panel, just a bunch of debris and surface rust here and there. The new sheet is fitted and ready for plug welding later today.

Truer words have never been spoken. Just wait, it gets better...

Let’s not lose sight of why I’m saving THIS car:

1) it’s a ‘73- “the last of the best” imo.

2) it will be my 2yo sons first car if he is “into cars”. He will likely wreck it so why not wreck one that has been pieced back together.

3) I don’t feel guilty about cutting up a “nice” car for flares/airdam/different seats n such to satisfy my craving for a “boy racer” car.

I was wondering what was going on.

I understand- which is why I'm selling the '72 tii and messing with a '76.

But gawd! has this been a lot of work- and that's sitting here in CO just looking at periodic updates.  Tell me you have a body shop, please.  Or that you plan to open one after this- I bet half the people on here would send you their cars for work...

Dave.

'76, totally stock. Completely.

Mods- let me know if this isn’t acceptable.

Not a body shop, just a classic car shop dedicated to getting old iron back on the road and keeping it there.

website is a work in progress- please don’t judge too harshly.

I'm glad it's not just me. I get exhausted reading his updates.

Impressive work Jake.

Great get!  Maybe you can have the "red" scanned by a paint shop to get the definitive paint code.

Took care of a small portion of my "Vintage Checklist".

The difference in the shifter feel is amazing!

Had some clients stop in at the shop yesterday so not much time for my own junk. I did however manage to weld/flap wheel the wing sheet. I then rehung a door and fender to double check gaps.

I can’t decide if I want to repair these fenders or just splurge for a pair of aftermarkets. I’m going to cut ‘em up for the flares anyway. I’ll have to think on that a bit more.

I need to finish welding the lower quarter panel in, remove the drivers inner seat mount, mount the new seat brackets and then it’s time to flip the car around and get back to work on the pass side.

Cruisin’ right along.
