I like the air filter! I'm just about to install dual DCOE 40's on my '73. What is the brand / model? Is that a non-tii brake booster?

thx

How did you get the folded edges and maintain the bent nature of the tab?

Here's a quick "How to"

The original tabs are 15mm by 45mm. I used 0.8mm sheet metal but the original metal that was used is a little thinner.

I used the 0.8mm cuz I had it and I think it's less prone to shearing when bending the tab a couple of times.

After cutting out the tab, I fold over the edges until I have something like this. One end of the tabs will get hammered flat again so if only one side turns out ok it's good.

I then band the two sides up, the side where it gets spotwelded onto the car is a little bigger.

I then bend it over on some bar I had laying around. You to need to push it quite a bit for them to move it overall the folded edge maintains pretty good.

Bigger side hammer flat again

And corners chamfered

Repeat several time and you end up with these :)

Finally.... No rain!!!  I was able to remove the fuel tank and began repairing the inside /outside edges of the fuel cell area.  Once i got in there I 1st brush the surface rust with a brass brush. Knocked off very small rust chunks.  Mostly brushed surface rust.  I smooth out the area and made it flat and smooth but allowed the remaining surface rust to stay and sprayed that with RustMort.  The photo with the rustmort in it is deceiving because it reads Rust Mor.... don’t know about you but i probably wouldn’t use a product to convert rust if the title said RUST-MORE..... its a really great product for CONVERTING rust into a sandable paintable surface.  I’m going to primer then paint POR15 on the edges of the incloser and the top of the tank and undercoat the bottom (tank).  Once all is done Ill address starting the engine with a clean tank an all electricals taken care of.  I just want to see if I can get the engine running then,  Ill remove and restore everything about it (the engine , I mean...).  Can’t wait!!!

The black areas is rust converted.  I removed all the scale and then wired the remaining surface rust then, sprayedbRUST-MORT on and let sit wet for about 20 minutes.  The rust converts to a paintable/sandable surface. I will jet wash the trunk and sand the black areas then primer.

Installed a pair of trapezoid mirrors (the reproductions from Blunt).  My car did not have a passenger side mirror until today.

I also polished my front bumper with the last of my Simichrome polish.  I bought the tube in 1979.  Hey, it says to use "sparingly".  Turned my bumper from a $100 bumper to a $300 bumper, I'm sure.
