What did you do to your 2002 today !

Today I checked and adjusted the valves. Last week, I noticed a louder click and clack at idle that either is drowned out or goes away above idle.  After adjustment, engine still has what sounds like a single valve that is louder than the rest.  Using a mechanics stethoscope it sounds like the #3 exhaust valve.  Checking my notes I see that particulate valve as found was the loosest of the eight at 0.008.

I'll look at it again tomorrow.  Picture of freshly opened patient.

Pulled the instrument cluster and removed 50 years of grime off the gauge lenses.  Also, a prior owner (or someone) had tried to pry out the cluster, and tweaked and damaged the dash board instrument surround.  I found a pristine replacement on e-bay for $20.00 and in it went.  I think I bruised my ribs, spending so much quality time under the dash.

Painted my seats. I choose a warmer non-BMW color. It is Cork from the Porsche catalog.

Interestingly the different parts of the seat faded differently. The non-perforated parts faded to a weird tan-green, while the perforated stayed much closer to the original Gobi tan.

So far the adhesion is good.

The paint is form Classic Dye Products, Cork 9359

Braved 32° weather in the 2002 with no heat for caffeine and octane this morning.
I found a perfect spot next to a Datsun 510 but then a couple crown vics parked on each side so I decided to abandon that spot.
Two lanes down I found an open spot next to my old M5 with the new owner.
I saw a very clean 2002 there but I wasn't a fan of the wheels.
I also saw a Vw sp2 which was a first for me. The guy said there were only about 400 in the states.

I never saw the Inka though I didn’t venture much down into that end of the crowd.  I’ll pay better attention next time and say hi.  I saw you get a talking to about leaving early.  I drove my 911 and was in with that coral.
That VW was great, talked to the owner for a while about it, his grandfather bought it new in Brazil in 1974.

Made some more progress on the EFI bits. Most of the mechanicals are loosely in place. Made a plan for the throttle linkage. Started the wiring harness.

How did the bench test go? Everything seems to activate?

Are you using 318i injectors and throttle or substituting? Also, what fuel pump did you hook up?

The bench test went fine. I was able to receive expected signal from everything.

I am using some new bosch injectors of a size that theoretically should be good once I eventually turbo.

For now I am using the 318i TB I believe it is... the one that fits the manifold with no modifications. I am not sure if I will have to go bigger for the turbo. I suspect not but will factor all that in when the time comes. I think with NA the bigger TB matters more.

Fuel pump is an external one that I got from Dudeland. Eventually I might pick an in-tank one up. I have the in tank sender that has a pump in it, I just removed the beaten up old pump from it in favor of the new one.

My car is ‘74 so I get to use the steel return line as a high pressure supply line without running too much new fuel line!

Chamonix ‘73

To heck with taking measurements... I scraped the grime off of and blasted some of the scale from a spare subframe. I used that subframe to generally position the new frame rail. Next time I’ll pull the subframe and start taking measurements to see where I’m at. I think I’m on the right street, just not the correct address yet if ya know what I mean.EE60B5A7-736E-4F7B-98C8-F76EF2C4DD33.thumb.jpeg.5f79192a244f3834ab25b807bb4f01dc.jpeg

Im assuming the color change /dye was to the slightly tobbacco colored butt-rests?
