I have no experience in body work, but it appears to his newb that you know what you're doing. Keep it up!

Forgot to post over the weekend, but pops helped me deal with this

Took my daughter to the nearby Sonic for Friday ice cream in the 02. Seems like every time we go out for a drive someone is yelling out their window that they love something or other. I am thankful that I own one every time I get inside and put my hands on the wheel. Just wanted to share this!

Chamonix ‘73

Fresh right side wing sheet and replaced a pair of 2”x2” sections of the A sheet that were pretty thin. I couldn’t poke through the rust, but I kept muttering to myself “it’s a damn sight easier to do it now than it will be after the car is assembled”. Slopped on some POR15 before welding in the wing sheet. Kinda wish I had been doing that “all along”. There’s going to be some messy days with POR in a cavity wax gun in my future... the things we do for the things we love.

I’m very happy with the finish...around half the cost  of the Glasurit paint on my inka,  I had right at 4K in glasurit products on the inka I love the finish but it comes at a cost...spacer.pngspacer.png

Started removing the door P/D and on the Driver side it took me a while to figure out I had to release the door brake to fully remove the door from the hinges.  While looking at the door brake pivot arm which extends out of the interior of the door to a Ubracket on the door frame,  that U bracket is welded to the inside of the door frame.  It had lost it’s weld and after first removing the roll pin and separating the pivot arm (which is inside the door itself and IS the door-brake) the U-bracket just fell into the trailing edge of the  door jam. A magnetic pick-up tool later and the U-bracket was in my hand.

A view from the passenger side door jam shows the intacked and welded U-Bracket attached to the pivot arm that IS the door brake.  (Bottom off-center in Photo) The round circle in the photo is the roll pin that connects the pivot arm to the U-bracket. As seen,  it has been dimpled and that dimpled end must be dremelled/cut off to allow the pin to be punched upward to remove.  I understand that this pin must be closest in outside-Diameter to the U-Brackets inside diameter so one does’nt  perpetuate a loud/irritating/snapping noise when the door is opened.

I located an entry in the FAQ which suggested a much better and less expensive replacement door/brake taken from a 1990’s (or so) Mercedes 300D (they fit in many models of Merc.Ben. for that time period) The forum suggested using AutoHuasAZ (or something like that).  I ordered 2 300D hinges from AHAZ for something like... $8 a piece but that fell thru and I got an email from AHAZ apologizing for having even kept the posted DB & price in their system.  No worries.  Where other websites were charging hundreds for the original OEM door brake,  I was able to buy these on -02/2020- for $60 a piece. I just went to the dealer and special ordered part# 126720015. A special advantage to these  DB’s is the rubber/plastic cover sheild that will protect the DB from water damage.  These won’t be installed till I dismantle and restore the doors but I don’t know how many times I was a dollar short and a Day late in purchasing items that I thought were expensive at the time but someone found way around the price (less expensive) and I regretted not jumpin on the deals....... I’ll put this article in the journal and hope people see it to get this great deal....
