What did you do to your 2002 today !

Bent metal for the first time today. Baby steps but I have always been fascinated by that skill. After pounding and checking and checking and pounding I found that this will be a long but rewarding process. I had heard on lots of videos that you will learn as you go. Makes a little sense but I am a slow learner. I was going to ignore this spot on the repairs but then decided to go at it.

I am very limited on what I have for metal working tools at this point but thinking about what I have and what I want to do I was able to use these. Used the soft ground as a hammering bag and the ball on my trailer hitch for a round anvil.

Might not look like much but there is a compound curve on the tunnel that I was able to match up pretty well. I started with a piece much larger than I will need as I was not sure how it would go but I think once I remover the rot the piece will be close enough to work in. 316831764_IMG_31061.thumb.JPG.57bb429f669485355fa105e67dea43ad.JPG316831764_IMG_31061.thumb.JPG.57bb429f669485355fa105e67dea43ad.JPG

When lined up with the bottom the left side actually fits the contours quite well. Felt like a dork for actually being proud.

I used 18 gauge and have 20 here also but the metal was in between so I thought thicker is better.

If it "ran when parked" you wouldn't have parked it!

I’m in a locked down state and about a week away from asking Uber eats to pick up some more steel for me. In the meantime I cut up some angle iron to make a new alternator mount. I have a non tii alternator in a tii bracket which means I have to use spacers and washers and it’s always sat a little side ways. I’m waiting to hear about a new pulley before reinstalling.

When I ran a 5 series (I think) alternator, i made a spacer of the correct width and a bolt of the same diameter as the corresponding mount and spacer holes, any difference will show up as a deflected alternator position, it all needs to fit snug to avoid what is happening in your pics, I think Ireland now sell a bracket and or spacer for this very fitment.

Wasn't happy with throttle actuation on my 32/36 Weber. It was rough and binding a bit about half way thru its travel.

Took it off and investigated, It still did it on the bench so my theory of "maybe the secondary butterfly is catching on a poorly fitted spacer" was out.

Turns out it was this little choke linkage, going to call it a cam and cam plate?

Cam plate was rusty, polished up a little with a piece of 320 grit glued to a popsicle sick.

Did the same for a similar set up at the accelerator pump?

Dab of black molly grease on cam plates, drop of 3in1 oil on all shafts, pivots and reinstalled.

Smooth as butter now

they have a spacer and bent adjuster arm. The new bracket keeps it square and has the added benefit of a shorter bolt so I don’t have to remove the radiator.

I had this same problem, I really needed a few shim washers in front, under torque it was squeezing the bracket and causing a bowing angle.

Went for a KF tuning trip after swapping out the WUR, re-setting all of the throttle linkage to avoid binding on the air hose.  Found a sneaky loose hose fitting under the plenum that I missed last time I re-assembled everything.  Might have been giving some quirky air leakage, fast idle.

Nice spot to stop for a D-cam, idle adjustment:

I washed my car earlier this week which is part joy and part pain discovering new chips in the paint. So today was touch up day. Wasn't too bad really, I've learned to embrace the chips as a "badge of honor" for driving the car.
