I hope the picture will now be visible to all!

Hi gentlemen, still busy with my total 2002Tii restoration. Yesterday I was ready to put a layer of black hi temp paint on the radiator when the idea to clean and polish the copper top and bottom came to my mind... What do you think? Should I paint it all black or just protect that copper with a hi temp clear coat and paint the central part with black? On the pictures, the bottom is no polished yet.

Purely a personal choice, I’d say.  Have never seen one finished that way, but if you are including other “non-correct” modifications to the engine bay, or if you have a rough, “patina’d” engine bay, the clearcoat could provide a point of visual interest or provide some intentionality to the patina.  If you’re going for a more or less “correct” resto, you really can’t beat a flat or semi-glass black radiator with clean fins.  If your radiator has not been cleaned or cored for a long time, you should take it to a specialist.  Almost nothing so affects 2002 cooling as a cruddy radiator.  For a few hundred dollars, Walloth & Nesch (in Germany) sells a great enhanced-cooling radiator suitable for the tii.  Same dimensions as the original, which helps with matters like fan clearance, though not the most convenient for a/cs.

That engine bay looks serious!  Looks awesome.

But is it suppose to breathe out of the back of the radiator?

That’s where the thing sits. I dunno. The plan is to run a fresh air pipe to where the battery used to sit. My initial plan to do that didn’t work. So back to the drawing board. Can’t be any worse than with velocity stacks right now though.

Nice! I assume you are referring to the airbox? What is the sensor - air temp? What's on the other side of the box, Webers or Fuel Injection? It looks like a fuel rail, but then I see a throttle linkage too.....

Yes, sensor is intake air temperature. I run DCOE style ITBs, using Megasquirt EFI.

Driving down to the Tejas Chapter BMWCCA C&C this morning in North Austin and was at a stop light and heard a honk.  I looked in my mirror and saw Barney in his Bauer sitting behind me at the light. Funny thing is that someone posted a pic on Facebook about spotting two beauties sitting at a light.  Pic below.

Got rid of the horrible American Racing wheels that came on my car. Swapped them for some 320i turbines with Kumho Soluses (Soli?) Anyone want these AR wheels?

I also continued on with the neverending brake system rebuild. Today was installing the freshly delivered W&N fender grommets and snugging everything down on the front passenger side. Next steps are replacing the lines on the drivers side, and replacing wheel cylinders.  Fingers crossed the bleeding is easy since I am not sure I can take anymore brake work at this point!

Got the bulk of the front suspension out. Bushings are all long gone, and that nut on the driver's side ball joint under the strut appears to be an alien life form, not sure what I'm going to do to separate that.

I have good success drilling one or two holes in the remains of the nut parallel to the ball joint shaft , then splitting the nut with a small chisel.

It’s amazing how destroyed those nuts can get. I also like to clean and pack that area with waterproof grease when a new ball joint is installed.
