just found an older post from Paul W stating that I should have a cap on the end of the shaft and I do not. I'll measure and head to the hardware store. If that fixes it, well, there will be some quality booze passing these lips tonight...

I got mine from Jaymic this year

...nope...damn... capped off the end and the motor wouldn't idle at all (compensating tune was no longer accurate). So, I shut it down, re-synced it and I'm back to the surge, albeit in a narrower band and at a slower rate. will recheck timing when I get a new tach. My old Hawk died a couple of days ago. Anyone have a recommendation for a good tach? How about a reasonably priced 4 gas analyzer?

Also replaced the NKG BP5ES with BP6ES since that's what I had in the garage. Any reason not to use those?  Seems like I've read they are ok to use,

I use the BP6ES.  There was a thread a while ago, saying they are NLA.  They only have the Resistor style now, apparently.  Enjoy them while they last!

The ones you removed were one step hotter.

Googling just told me lower compression engines like hotter plugs.  Maybe I will try the BP5ES in my parts stash.

This one comes with a variable timing light, volt meter and dwell meter.

Used to be $100 delivered, then $110.  Now it looks more like $125.  Still a good value.

I was just looking at this. Had been borrowing my brother's snap-on variable timing light but had seen the Digital version of this (this is the Pro) and figured it was about time to get my own, at least one from this century. I have an old Sun that works pretty good, just not variable.

OK, making progress and finding a big issue (I failed to put a hose clamp on the air line from the pump to the plenum. How I didn’t see that one...). So while correcting it I had a pipe off and noticed this little hole that goes all the way into the throttle body behind the butterfly. Is there a regulating screw or something that is missing or is this just the Idle air port? I can’t find mention of it in my books

Last day of the Bavarian tour in Oberammergau, this is the most beautiful part of the world I’ve ever seen…we are leaving today for Munich to tour the BMW classic Facility tomorrow… if we had a dollar for everyone that’s taking a picture of our Texas plates we can pay for this trip.

Round 1 with the door gaskets went to the Frustration.  Did get a few pieces of trim on.    I am losing out to the tracks on the a-pillar to the roof.

Trying to remember, but something about a butter knife.  Maybe some dish soap / water in a spray bottle.  I don't remember but I will be doing it again soon.

Dave.
