What did you do to your 2002 today !

That's the plan.  I drove it a bit last night and another fifty miles today with the heater on and no signs of drips anywhere, so it must be from that old leak.  

 

I still have to remove the insulation panels from the firewall and transmission tunnel so I can peel up all the loose paint, deal with the rust and repaint the floor. 

 

I switched to BMW blue antifreeze a while back (2-3 years?) and sprung a leak under the hood where I'd repositioned a hose clamp.  (Permatex Aviation sealant on the corroded aluminum nipple fixed that).  That's when I learned that the blue antifreeze leaves a chalky residue when it dries, which is very useful for spotting/pinpointing leaks.  I don't see any sign of that on my floor though, so it must have been wet under the carpet for a long time.  Hence, the damage.

 

I put the back seat back in (34 lbs.), to make it seem less like driving a shell around.  I also put the Thule racks back in the trunk (14 lbs.).  I am going to carry less junk around, to keep the weight down.  The added lightness feels good.

I have taken the opposite approach, loading Zouave down with sound deadeners, an A/C, etc.  Maybe my next 02 will be a hot rod.  

 

When I pulled the interior out and that heater box was sitting there looking tired (with the worn out firewall gasket letting water in), I couldn’t help myself. Sent it to Hami Pramono, who gave it back to me a couple weeks later looking and working like brand new.  I figured, if I was going to put an A/C in, I really didn’t want ever to have to go back in there again.

I had a super slow leak in my BBS hub seal, pulled the wheel and tire and threw on a Bottle Cap roller while I work on my RS

I had this early tii air box kicking around and decided to have it powder coated.  I couldn't be happier with the results.  If you're in the Santa Cruz area and need something powder coated, I highly recommend Powder Coat It.  Jeremy and his crew do really excellent work.  (831) 435-9558

After driving it around for a week after buying it... I realized the vacuum advance isn't connected. Capped at the carb. 

 

With that connected the engine feels a lot less tired now. Also looking through the records the head was off 25k ago for valve seals. I'm a pessimist so this is all turning up way better than expected.

Cool!  Where did you connect the vacuum tube?  Ported (base of carb) or manifold (beneath the carb)?

 

Timing is everything, as they say.  Now would be a good time to buy a variable advance timing light.  It will tell you how your distributor is behaving and help you decide how to adjust the timing.

 

Here's the light I recommend (0ften).

I used the carb base port... I've made that mistake before (why is this engine always pinging!)

That looks pretty cool. I've been meaning to get one of those, but end up getting things pretty smooth with a vacuum gauge and my old timing light. Then I forget to order the new thingy again. 

I think my timing light is chrome and says sears on it. Same one I stole from my grandpa 20 years ago.

Here it is next to my sears, um, I don't know what. It basically does the job of one of those old hand held dwell units, but it's in a giant box.  (the solution there was the throw away the entirety of the ford feedback carb system btw)

Today I cleaned my wheels since they were looking pretty grubby.  I got it down to less than 5 min per wheel. I heavily sprayed the wheel with simple green and Windex solution followed by scrubbing with a brush dipped in piping hot water followed by a tap water rinse from my best sprayer. They came out pretty good for a quickie! Keeping up appearances on this daily driver.

Today, Greg Resa helped me and we loaded the 72 Ceylon tii up and transported it to the upholstery shop to have the headliner professionally installed…

Dan, its a spray on sound deader/undercoating … I replaced both front floor pans and i wanted to seal up the seams.

Dan i’m retired and the cars are my new job/project…its all about being able to put the man hours in consistently to made progress…also i was a General Contractor and we did not get paid until the project was completed, so I understand finishing the job…

five cars completed in six years…
