Still working on the rear suspension assembly and was about to fire off an order for a set of rear wheel bearings, when I decided to check my order history.  Roger's, no.  BluntTech, no.  Wallothnesch, no.  Ireland... bingo.  Somewhere in the garage sits a set of bearings that I ordered Sept 2021.  ha

Guessing your damaged trim is 99% better than what is on my car.  Fabulous pics, Barney

More fun with the ebay 85 amp alternator.  Bolts and nuts arrived from Belmetric today.  Because the metal bushing for the adjustment arm hole fits so loosely, with a millimeter of play — and yet there’s no room for a urethane insert — I inserted a short length of brass rod with almost exactly the right dimensions (15mm ID, 16mm OD, and .5mm wall thickness) into the adjustment arm hole and fixed it with (what else?) JBWeld.  Now there’ll be minimum wiggle along that axis.  I’ll replace the supplied neoprene washers with cut-down IE urethane inserts (just cut off the  part that would fit inside the stock mount hole to get a flat washer), and hopefully find a way to compress the urethane and metal end washers so I can fit the circlip into the bushing. Rigid, but hopefully not too, and hopefully the brass lasts awhile.C0E87ED5-14C2-4F0E-B445-C61904363A01.thumb.jpeg.8ace283d47b026b233f17fa2b543a469.jpeg

Then, as it was a real b—-h to get the pivot mount bolt out past the shroud mounts on the radiator when removing the alternator, I did a little surgery on the shroud mount metal, takingDD036151-AAFE-49A6-AA98-6CE861AB53C2.thumb.jpeg.05dbb01a03b41f31a07a8870d14dc322.jpeg care not to touch any brass.76C26F73-FD57-4793-8204-423A8E36F2F9.thumb.jpeg.a319d062ba5d43eae315d262fff6bfeb.jpeg

Just a few more steps and it ought to be ready to go back in.

A little more progress today on the ebay 85 amp alternator bushing refresh. With the epoxy dry around the new brass bushiing, installed the cut-down IE urethane “washers”, sandwiched between steel washers, and used my specialized press to make room for the circlip on the end of the bushing. E3755AD2-EF97-463D-BF0D-8D82D8455B7A.thumb.jpeg.ea130e11b421bcce76a93af820b86901.jpeg

Got outside today and extracted an upper engine bay firewall panel from a chunk of Rust Bucket I had in the barn. Its dirty work and I hate doing it in my limited space garage.

Going to use to repair poor little Franzies rusted out panel.

Only question now is how much to use, changing out the entire panel in a complete car looks difficult to say the least, Maybe better to flush in a section.

Today, I reinstalled the matching driver's seat.  The black one is more supportive, but mismatched seats  drove  me  nuts.

The little junco is back pecking at my mirror, so I put a sock back over it again this year; but now he's fighting with his reflection in the glass.

image.thumb.jpeg.59313be69dc60f066504146b952880ad.jpeg

I decided to pull the car out and wash it and removed the air cleaner lid, thinking I might prime the float bowl, since it'd been over a month since I'd started it.

image.thumb.jpeg.cee72e587014413a7f58f3ac55d3034a.jpeg

Then I noticed that the fuel filter was still totally full, so I didn't bother.

I also noticed a few mouse turds inside my air cleaner, so I cleaned it out and then screened them out.

Dude that mirror sock is awesome. We have the same little guys in our neighborhood and I always see bags hanging over mirrors. I think I’ll borrow your design👍🏼

#2 is done. Now to prime and paint.

side note: I chose not to weld in captive nuts for e-brake cable hold downs. I like nut-serts much better in applications like this. If they get stripped/goofed up just drill out and replace. Not stock I know, but I’m not a stock guy.

Finished Door Panels on the '70 Project

New Aardvark boards, Joann Fabrics batting, and new "chrome".  In addition, I found two new "velvet" fuzzy strips which scrape along the window in my stash (51 21 6 454 229; last photo).  Quite some time ago I paid $5 each; what are they now, $50 each?

Tried four brands/types of Mylar tape to refurbish and cover the "chrome" strips.  I found all three hard to use, difficult to stay stuck in tight areas, and a real PIA to conform to the ends of the strips.  Disappointed.  Then tried Ace Hardware aluminum tape.  Much, much better and easier to use.  Finish is not "chrome"; however, after it was polished and waxed it was quite shiny and looked pretty darn good.  Satisfied.  It took me one panel to learn hot to apply the Al tape correctly, one panel to do correctly, and the original panel to re-do.  Even with the pseudo, quasi, kindalike, almost frlexibility of the Al tape, I still had to apply three 1" pieces to the curve in the upper strip, so there are three seams which are not too recognizable at all.  Overall, very pleased.

Nice 👍🏼 Is the all thread there to keep the ends from opening/closing? I’m about to do this, already did the fronts. Did you use the IE plates or make your own?

That’s exactly why the threaded rod is there. I actually spread the trailing arms by 1/16” when installing the rod to account for a little bit of shrinkage and both came out dead perfect. When you do this, take your time. I welded beads about 3-4” 4 at a time, and let it cool off 15 minutes or so between each set of 4 (if that makes sense).

I used the Ireland kit. I’ve got a break, stomp shear, and just about every other tool/machine you can think of to cut sheet metal. I was ordering a bunch of other stuff from Ireland so I went ahead and ordered their kit. It probably saved me an hour or so of work making the same parts (including the silly nut shaped cutout plate for the brake line fitting). Unless you just feel like making them, or you can’t wait I’d say order the kit. It’s cheap enough.

Drilled and tapped the oil filter housing for the oil temp sender unit.  1/8 NPT.  (A first for me (NPT)).  And no I did not power tap it. I just cranked the spindle manually - and slowly.  😳

I am curious about this oil filter housing….  It as an extra mounting flange?  What for?  I hope I did not modify some rare part that was only available on the first 2002 Alpina ?
