On my ‘73-

I churned out a few patch panels to clean up a couple of holes in the outer wheel house.

The metal for the corner/tab was from the inner apron of the ‘69. I want to use as much vintage OEM metal for any/all repairs as possible. The back half of the “Ray” was a scrap of metal I had saved from something else. The gauge was right and there just happened to be next to no waste so I used it. I still have to flatten the welds and prime it, but at least there aren’t any holes now.

Now I can start piecing together the outer wheel house that will go back on this car.

The whole thing will get POR’d once it’s together and before paint.

Just a few more little jobs to do in preparation for the paint shop. Tonight I stripped down the back end of trim, lights, spoiler etc and then welded the holes up that were there to mount the Automatic badge. The copper (or you can use aluminium) flat bar clamped on the inside keeps the weld flat on the back but the weld doesn't stick (a trick of the trade). I painted over it for temporary protection.

How much weight did you end up removing from the crank?

I didn't weigh it before I dropped it off at the machine shop, and I didn't really know it was going to happen.  When they realized I was going to put an aluminum flywheel on it they said they had something to help...  :)  Then they balanced all of it.

How much does a stock one weigh?  My bathroom scale has this one, I think, at 35 pounds.

Dave.

'76, totally stock. Completely.

Started welding up the holes left from removing the right quarter and outer wheel housing.

I cleaned/lubed the seat tracks while they were out as well. It’s nice not to struggle with the seat adjustment anymore.

The plan is to drive this back to the garage on Sat AM so that I might work on it more often and more comfortably. It’ll also be nice to have the ‘68 and ‘73 side by side to compare measurements etc as I carry on w/ repairs to both.

My little helper is almost 2yo. The ‘73 will be his car. The ‘68 will be Daddy’s.

Started installing suspension bushing. Began with the rear trailing arms and the diff hanger. Just wanted to get something done before bed.

These are the poly bushings from IE's rear bushing kit. Easy install with the two piece bushing setup. The diff hangar bushings were able to be pushed in by hand.

Finished my install of new rear deck covering, to replace my 20-yr old grey wool.  Re-installing the Boston's was a pita.  Called black-suede, it's more like short-stiff UV-safe velour, but now it matches my dash cover. Quite satisfied.

Couple of obligatory pics..

@kbmb02 - my crank was done up likewise 'knife-edge' by it's PO in the 80s, still going strong to this day (street motor tho') ...
