Andy, Thank you. You are right about selling my old friend. I parked her: the inspection ran out. The new GTI sharing the garage combined with working 60 hours a week caused me to turn a blind eye. Now 6 years later, retired I have the time and inclination to drive my old car. No blogs for this old guy. But you can bet I’ll share when she starts. Alex

I started fabricating the front crossmember. The old one was totally molested by previous owners. When I am finished it will be close to original - I hope

So this is pretty cool...

 

I found a period-correct 220 Kmh instrument cluster for my '72 Tii... (except for the faux wood, but I've got the original type)

to replace my original that got swapped for a '74 2002 200Kmh unit.

 

So the question was, "Is the speedo/odometer ratio correct compared to the '74 unit in my car?

New replacement set to 00000:

 

So I whipped out my handy-dandy $11.00 endoscope camera and snuck it up behind the speedo, and... Voilá!  5 minutes later and no cluster removal! easey -peasey!

Good to go to get it re-set for the original 106,103Kms + 2,806Kms driven since purchased!

 

And I took my beat-up under dash panels and gave them a nice coat of black shoe polish - worked wonders!

Snowing outside, so I just meticulously  cleaned out and polished the chrome sunroof track and white vinyl edge.  Also ran a long rod down both front  rain tubes to insure they were not  blocked.
