I finally got my 67 running. Took it for its first drive around the neighborhood. And yes I spilled fuel putting in gas. Darn California gas nozzles.

The struggle is real. I am sure you are probably more experienced than I but this is what I have learned in the last two months. Hold the nozzle at an uncomfortably low position and push in as hard as you can and fill the car in short spurts instead of all at once. I still spill some fuel every time, but less and less each time.

Picked up my refreshed throttle body and D-cam shaft from Buck Denzer at Verden Tool. The D-cam had about a .005 flat spot right where Paul Winterton said it would be, and the original lower shaft bushing was “wallered out” to the point that the shaft clanked around in it.  The solution we worked out was to press in a bronze bearing the full length of the lower bushing housing and to use Paul’s epoxy fix to build up the flat spot on the shaft.  The longer bushing will take up most of the pressure from the shaft along the still-round parts of the shaft, so the epoxy fix is really just gravy.  The resulting fit is very good, and Buck cut some oil channels into the bushing (a la Einspritz’s steering box bushings). Waiting on some bolts and clamps from Belmetric to put it all back together.  Then we’ll see how it tunes…..710654CB-CE29-43E6-942B-712064B91CC0.jpeg451ECD95-64D2-4D08-9A95-FF50F16B803E.jpeg

Today I'm addressing one small paint/rust issue.  Apparently the hinge was stressed at some point in the past, I pounded the area down w/ a hammer and sanded to bare metal. Currently waiting on the POR15 to dry, tonight I'll brush on a couple coats of chamonix.  The beauty of a daily driver quality car.

In the process of a full rebuild of the front subframe. Got my new ball joints in, filled up with grease, and safety wired. With new $11 bolts from BMW.

Before was not pretty. One of them had to be drilled, heated and beat into submission to get it out.

We did not get to a point where I could take my 73tii to tomorrow's St. Louis BMW Cars and Coffee at Rockwell Beer.  But I thought I could provide some current photos.

Headliner, gaskets and glass are in.  The door windows will need some further adjustment before I will seal up the doors.  Had the Recaros done by Aardvarc and the upholstery firm that did the headliner put on the World Upholstery cover.  There was an oops from World, the base was 4 inches or 2 bolsters too wide and the back was 2 inches too wide.  Upholstery firm did a nice job fixing!  Interior will also have new early door cards and a salt n pepper carpet from Esty.  Glass has a pale blue ceramic UV coating.

Car has 245 5 speed and LSD.

On day 38 after 8737 km traveled across Europe…we dropped  off our 74 Baur Targa for shipping back to home… some sadness, some relief the 2002 never gave one hint of a problem…other than they left the over head light on while cleaning it after shipping over and the battery was dead when we arrived…four last days in Amsterdam and then we head home.
