What did you do to your 2002 today !

Recommended Posts

That “God stopped.. in 1976” is great! Would be great for my ‘76

I rented a lift at Stew’s in Kirkland today. I changed the diff oil, checked the trans oil level (it has a leak. wet but not dripping), and replaced the trans mount. It took some leverage to get the holes all lined up. I am wondering if need to realign the drivetrain at some point if and when that wimpy non-E21 mount fails.  Could be the reason why the guibo is in such bad shape. Or it could just be normal for an old guibo. Thoughts?

edit: forgot to mention, this is the longest drive in the 2002 in the year I’ve owned it! 30 miles round trip. Feeling more and more confident with it the more work and familiarity I have with it.

A few of us here in Austin met up at Terry Sayther’s shop and drove out to the Circuit of the Americas to check out a few 02s participating in the Vintage Races.  Thought I’d share a few pics.  First one I took as we were walking back to our 02s and a photographer taking some pics of our 02s.  Thought that was kinda cool. ?

Not sure which pic you're referring to?  But no,  none of the 02's in the pics are Marc's (Moment Motors 1600).  Can certainly get you some pics if you're interested though.

I think I’m losing my marbles.  The MM car is Colorado. I should know, as I drove it last year with Marc!  Always good to see what the central TX crowd are up to.  Hope to join y’all sometime.

Yeah, the 02 Terry was driving is far from electric.  ?

Shook my head in disbelief that a part as simple as an oil pan gasket could be manufactured with such inaccuracy. A reminder, more than ever, to check everything.

(coming soon: issue with some aftermarket oil pumps).

You need a few of the bolts like in the upper left of this collection.

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

Ran down the clatter I was experiencing with the driver’s window.  When rolled up fully, it would make a whacking sound every time I drove over a bump.  I was worried it was a failing winding mechanism, big expense item and royal POA.` Finally got a friend to help me diagnose it (thanks Dave Wetzel!), turns out it was the rear upper corner of the glass whacking against the aluminum frameAlthough newish, the door rubber on the driver’s side doesn’t have the necessary pucker at that corner to push against the glass, and the PO had jammed the glass against the rubber such that it kept out wind noise but also sounded like a jackhammer going over bumps.  With help from a Mike Self article and my skilled friend Dave we adjusted the rear of the window so that it no longer whacks.image.thumb.jpeg.15586e989d801b1fd93bdd3cf3556519.jpeg  It maybe lets a little wind noise in, but is the best we could do given the defective rubber.
