What did you do to your 2002 today !

Took my own advice about starting with a new project car and cleaned it up. Nothing kills motivation faster than a dirty car.

28 years of garage storage left the paint dry, scuffed, and stained. Washed it with Dawn dishwashing liquid to remove as much grime as possible. Then used a synthetic clay pad over the whole car... that removed a ton of contamination. The paint is significantly smoother feeling now. Then made a first run at the engine bay... this usually takes several attempts to get everything degreased. Finally, cleaned and protected the interior vinyl.

Ordered some new orbital pads from Griots along with some compounds and polish.  After a few days of paint correction, I’m hoping it will shine up nicely. It is a respray and not great, but I’ll make it as good as it can be.

Also began investigating the engine and why they removed the intake. The tops of the intake valves are very clean. Also removed the valve cover to find that it is also extremely clean... Makes me wonder how many hours are on this engine.

I suppose I should begin a project thread...  Stay tuned.

Called Lucas Classic Tires to order a set of Pirelli CN36's.  Having them put on my 74tii the end of next week.  Didn't realize until late last fall that the current set dates back to January 2008.  Yikes!

Hit a little set back in my engine assembly. Just as i was prepping to put gasket & head on i found tiny little scratch near one of the bores. As i'm using MLS gasket surface is pretty critical to get proper seal. Deck was surfaced as block was bored etc. So after little swearing & couple of second opinions i took assembled bottom end back to pieces (insert here your favorite swear words times hundred or so). Yesterday evening took the block to machinist and told him that now in a hurry. This morning just before 9 got message that block is ready to pick up. Oil passages cleaned, crank is now torqued down. Next pistons...

Holy crap, Barney! The mirrors on my wife’s Tesla Model 3 — that’s the little Tesla — must be folded to get it into our 1927 detached garage. Looks like you don’t have that issue… ???

Best regards,

Steve

Bit the bullet....installed a PerTronix Ignitor II ignition module (p/n 91847-V).

My stock points/condenser and original 059 distributor and coil were working perfectly (I think), and I still noticed a difference!

Here's a picture of the "uncondensed" result.

So I messed with the oil pressure fitting for a couple hours past two days and can't

get hole for the gauge fitting to line up to clear the distributer or valve cover. Try one washer then stacked some washers with no luck.

My oldest walks in says let me try.  First frickin try right where I want it to be .

Oy Vey  really.  I hope to finish underdash wiring Thursday and should be good to go.

Sometimes the simplest things.  ?

Unfortunately, and embarrassingly, I had my 1976 2002, which I bought on BAT a few weeks ago, towed to my mechanic because I couldn't diagnose why it wouldn't run right. Sputtering, stalling, backfiring, etc. I thought it was bad gas at first, definitely related to fuel I think. But after hours of reading forum articles, I was not able to track it down.
