Soaked my swaybar parts in Evaporust

Works pretty well!  Still trying to figure out the best way to re-rustproof the parts.  I may plate them, but I'd rather do something a little easier.

Threw a couple coats of 2k primer and semi-gloss on the swaybar

IE also got back to me and are going to send new bushings.  Onto the coilover install!

Not so much today as the last few weeks:  Installed a turn signal cancelling ring my car was missing, made and installed a horn ground across the steering coupler (horn works now!), and replaced battery power and ground cables.  I added silicone covers to the positive terminals after an arc'ing incident with a wrench near the starter.  Not sure I love them visually- perhaps I'll swap them for black later.  I still need to clean up the wires against the left fender after this job, but I want to put in an aux. fuse block to get rid of some of the inline fuses before I call it done.

One thing I'm not sure about is what the short lead from the new factory positive lead (BMW p/n 12-42-1-732-447, which replaces 12-42-1-732-447 that had only one lead to the starter).  It's too short to reach the alternator, so I'm not sure what it is intended for.  I put heat shrink over it and tie-wrapped it to the starter lead.

While replacing the negative lead, I scuffed the engine block mounting point with scotchbrite, and now the engine starts with barely a bump of the key!  It turns out fundamentals such as clean grounds do make a difference!

Oh!  Also forgot- the wipers didn't park when I bought the car.  Found an old post by @Mike Self and he sent me an old Roundel post he wrote describing the fix.  I disassembled the motor's gear/parking mechanism, and found that one of the reeds had broken off (and was nowhere to be found).  I cleaned up what was left of it, and made a new one out of copper sheet.  I cut a new gasket for the lid, and put it back together.  My new reed is a bit stiff, as you can hear it audibly click with each swipe of the wipers!  But they do park correctly now!

@johnnyb Please show wiring under the red positive cover.  This is one area needs cleaning up on my car.

Thank You,

No project is crappy, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. As long as you enjoy it!

Yes, half joking, half serious.  These gorgeous builds are equal parts inspiring, intimidating and frustrating (that I don't have that kind of skill or patience).  This one is over the top and super cool.  Once mine is on the road, all will be good.

Been working on getting rid of exhaust smell in cabin. I sealed all the holes between the trunk and the cabin including speaker holes in the package tray and a replacement oem trunk gasket. Then I had a muffler shop attach a longer chrome exhaust tip to get past the diving board bumper.  All the black stuff around the underside of the bumper is soot. Fingers crossed hoping I fixed it

i guess my brake lever was in good shape bc addition of thrust washers was hardly noticeable. at least it was an easy 10min job even with seats in. pushed the pin out with a drift that retained the handle while i used a magnet to slide washers onto one side. then replaced the drift with with a m10x40 wrapped in a 1/2"x 1" steel spacer and similarly added washers to other side.

"In today's episode of Roadkill Garage, the impatient geebob attempts to drive a relic that hasn't seen a road in 35 years. Not gonna be good, someone call 911..."

So I intended to just roll down the drive, but he was peppy! Wanted to go! Rolled to end of the drive, road clear no traffic...step out and rolled on the throttle for a Yowsa! 500 yards or so. No taillights, no signals no hood. No common sense.

The little guy on the shoulder shouted, "get your ass back to the barn"... turned around and goosed him back to the stable.

Nice! Still some work to do before the shell get attention, but stoked!

How is your joint between and header and exhaust including the gasket ring there?
