A couple weeks ago a new Tii owner to the Austin area Mike, came to our monthly BMW C&C. Then he joined us last weekend for a Saturday morning drive. On that drive his car acted up. Some deduction and consultation later, the culprit seemed to be coil or dizzy related. Soooo… this morning he drove it over to good guy, Barney Toler’s house where me, and Greg Resa and Barney and Mike got busy.

Installed the new 123 distributor and a 123 coil. First try it didn’t want to fire. I rotated the dizzy a bit and off she went. Purring like new.

We programmed a curve using the Tii ignition numbers found in the Haynes Manual. “Turn your hymnals to page 67…”

I brought out the timing light and confirmed the position of the 123 and locked it down. It idles flat as a flitter at 950rpm.

We put the car in the air for some inspection and found a couple items that need attention; otherwise it’s a very solid car.

Then we went for pizza. Thanks Greg for the great pictures.

With the water pump sorted it was time to address the inop sunroof.  Panel out, tracks cleaned and lubricated, and it now retracts.  Given that it’s nearly 100° today, that will be nice in the morning.

Coming days will be door cards, and the dreaded / feared rear corner window seals.

I don’t see any evidence of the snap clips being installed on the panel that goes over your spare tire?

These clips go on usually before the vinyl gets applied.

My panels had the clips on spare side already installed. I didn’t remove them to replace the vinyl. Yes, I noticed the c/s screw heads in the wood when I removed the old vinyl.

Worked a few days early this week getting the Baur ready for a two week trip to New Mexico and Colorado with the BMW classic club… Changed out the Center flex joint / changed the oil & filter / checked the tires…we are doing a run up Pikes Peak on this trip.

Completed a cooling system refresh. EVERY hose, water pump and radiator replaced. Replaced worn alternator bushes too.

Trickiest part was installing the rebuilt heat control valve. But you all know that already. Filled with water, no leaks and temp gauge is in a happy place. . Next: drain and refill with proper coolant.

Ready for 90 degree days next week in the PNW.IMG_3823.thumb.jpeg.ff712b0e8615b6db9dac7912c41783d1.jpeg next week.

Not exactly today, but I turned my old door skin into wall art for the garage. Even if I no longer have the car in the future I’ll always have that to remind me. I still find old bolts in a can to my old VW’s and remanence. 🙂

Was in need of a little BMW Therapy session yesterday, so painted my dip stick and then let it bake in the sun all day...

It's the little things and the attention to little details - that matter.  Nice dip stick!

Finally finished the driver seat, pulled the old clapped out blue 74 seat from the mounts and put the original seat back in. It was a lot of work sewing the new perforated panels in... tough on old fingers and eyes 🙈.  Dyed the seat as previous pieces.

Not perfect, but comfortable and looks better. I used 1" aluminum square tube as risers for both front seats. It felt like you were on the carpet originally....
