Finally installed the original numbers matching engine. a week ago.  I did a complete rebuild and even decided to go with the plastic runners.  I'm hanging onto the Alum set that were on the engine that was in the car.  Got it running now but am dealing with a searching idle issue.

finished geartrain of 260 rebuild. local dealers still have the synchros, but couldnt get little bits like snap rings.  WN had everything but the synchros.

hf long jaw puller has just barely the reach to do this project.

Interior work continues. It took me about a week, but I got the rear seat built, upholstered, and set in place. I still need to finalize the slam latch, but otherwise it’s done. So much more work than I was expecting!  Every minute of work needed two minutes of thinking before I was sure I wasn’t messing up. 😬

Platform first:

Then lots of foam work:

Then so much sewing. The diamond quilt takes forever and putting all the panels together is even longer.

Once the main section was attached, it was on to the rear bolster panel. I’m especially happy with my little seatbelt cubby, it was a bit of a pain but worth it.

I just got it set in place today!  I’m not 100% on the stripe, it’s just laying there for now. It does match the sun visors and my wife really likes it…so it’ll probably stay.

Either way, I’m happy with it. I upholstered the door cards, but doing a seat from scratch was a whole new set of challenges for me. I definitely learned a lot on this one.

Eventually I’m going to sew up some back pads, but for now I’m going to focus on getting it back on the road. Front seats will go in, then I need to get it running which it currently isn’t. I’m pretty sure it’s bad gas, so hopefully it’ll be a quick fix. Almost there, almost, almost, almost…

Tested my thermostat and removed the heater box. Thermostat started opening at 76C which is good for a 75C and fully opened at 90C just under 9 mm.

The heater box is a long time coming. Now where did I put that rebuild link ....

Super clean engine bay. How did you clean the intake and valve cover?

Exceptional work there, very nice! Sewing is not my forte, tests my limited patience! Love the seat belt cubby.

Today I got the slam latch and striker installed for the rear seat. Then I lined the bottom of the seat platform with some neoprene foam for sound insulation.  Seatbelt in as well, now I just have to drop in the Recaros and drive it out of the garage!

I yank the red loop to release the slam latch and the seat tilts up. Easy access to my amp and whatever else I hide in there. I love it when a plan comes together.

Today the front seats went in. Aside from some back pads for the rear seats, the interior is complete.  Big step!  I started on my carpet around Christmas, so I’ve been working the interior for 7 months at this point. Aside from the Recaros, I upholstered everything myself so it’s been a pretty huge amount of work. I’m really proud of the end result though, and totally happy that I took on the challenge.  I learned a ton. When I started, I didn’t know how to thread the sewing machine!!😂🤦‍♂️

If things go my way, I might even be able to drive it this week still.  I’ll post up a video if I manage to get it out of the garage.  Wish me luck!

Lucky, were you able to use a standard sewing machine, or did you use a commercial/industrial machine with a walking foot?

So clean. Not overdone. You SHOULD be proud. “Most” people can’t do stuff anymore! 😂

I got it all done with a standard Kenmore home machine, no walking foot. I figured there was a real possibility of killing it, but it handled everything like a champ.  Even though it was a gift to my wife, she says it’s my machine now. 😂
