Ray,

Pic of the car when "Vroomer" had it back in 2007. Wheels same as the Opel.

That number may be a first series 69. Does it have a long neck differential and single circuit brakes?

Good point, Jim.  Good question, although I believe VIN 1664750 (just 85 cars earlier) is generally considered the changeover from long-neck to short-neck differentials.

I would be shocked if this were originally a Chamonix car with a saddle interior (I see the underhood sticker for Chamonix).  Originally Sahara?  Originally Nevada?  Interior swapped?

Best regards,

Steve

I will check the records to see if there was paint work done, but as far as I know this is a Chamonix car.

BMW Archives:  info.grouparchiv@bmwgroup.com.   Email them the VIN and request their data.

Mind you: the car doesn't appear to be color-changed, but the exterior color is one of the few things we can actually confirm!

I've seen a few examples of Chamonix with a black interior (all early cars, e.g., '66-'68) but never an example of a Chamonix with saddle from the factory.  Alas, pretty impossible to prove, since "early" window stickers ('66 through '74) don't show exterior or interior colors.  Dated cards inside seat bottoms and backs can disprove the originality of an interior -- e.g., seats dated after manufacturing date or months before manufacturing date.  But dealers did things like swapping interiors to sell a given car to a given buyer (my dealer suggested and happily swapped lowered front seats out of a new sunroof '76 for the standard height front seats with which my '76 left the factory, so my "highly original" '76 does not have its factory-installed front seats!).  If the carpet is original, and is gray and dark gray (a.k.a., salt-and-pepper), I'd be reluctant to believe a saddle interior left the factory with the gray carpeting; saddle typically came with multi-brown or brown carpeting.

All in all, the car appears to be highly original, so it could simply be a case of a dealer interior swap.

I'd certainly recommend that a buyer keep the car's original rims with the car, even if they don't choose to mount them!  The completeness of the original package is one of this car's strengths.

Regards,

Steve

Thanks for the info Steve! Much appreciated. I do not have any history on the seats as to wether they were swapped at the dealer, but I do know the carpet was "refurbished" at one point in the 90's. It's possible someone changed out the carpet set at that time, but the records are not detailed. I really wish I had the true original wheels, but they never came with the car.

I will post more pictures next week, along with some of the records, to give everyone some more clarity.

Thanks!

Updated the DropBox link with a few pictures of the binder I put together with all documents. It shows all maintenance and repair work completed since 1969, only two owners (I am the third).

Also, turns out the Opel GT wheels are no longer available. I must have put them on another client car, so this BMW will come with the BBS-style rims as pictured in the Dropbox photos.

Please PM me with any questions.

Thanks everyone!
