I can't tell if you're looking for a European-spec or a U.S.-spec bracket. European-spec round taillights clearly used a rear license plate mount, which is much wider than a U.S. license plate.  The U.S.-spec models, however, originally just bolted the plate directly to the rear body panel and rested the top of the plate on the anodized aluminum trim piece that runs from taillight to taillight.

 

I believe there is an often-used Mercedes bracket that works quite nicely to rectify the "no-bracket" condition on U.S. models.

 

There are threads that discuss this issue and which provide exactly the Merecedes part number -- if you're working on a U.S.-spec solution!
