SS bumpers after 5 years or more

A friend of mine visited the vietnam manufacturing site...it's skilled metalwork...they are beating these bumpers out of flat sheet by hand. No presses, no tooling. They have an original bumper as a pattern and they are simply copying it. The noise in this factory is incredible.

The early S/S bumpers I have on the 69 came from Ben at LaJolla Independent. Box certainly came from the Far East.

 

Front bumper fits perfect.

Rear bumper needed lots of work (filing, grinding, notching, etc) plus buying those (2) expensive mounting blocks.  The RR corner needs more work but taking this on and off the car is a real hassle.  Before fitting the rear, use painter's masking tape on the body to help prevent scratches.

I'm not a big 'blue car' guy but that shade of blue really does it for me. Sort of reminds me of an old porsche 356 color. Beats the heck outta Nevada (which is pretty cool too)

Well Toby, a  surprise to me, If I laid out a grand, I would expect a better product.

Yes...layers and layers of blue tape!

 

The biggest PITA was the seam covers. I spent a lot of time there....and they still don't fit right.

Anything aftermarket for a car built in this era is going to have fitment issues

And - perhaps - new OE / OEM parts for a car that's been alive for 45 years may also have fitment issues...

new BMW steering lock with ignition switch (defective switch)

new BMW 3 position wiper switch (contacts don't work).

If these bumpers really are hand beaten and shaped, hard to complain too much!
