Nice '74 tii from an odd site...definite scam site!

Description:

I tripped over this website looking for an Alfa Romeo GTV and then looked for 2002s.  It's called pawnauctions.org  (It is not a pawn site, but doesn't seem like one of those webcrawler sites that lists cars from other sites either)  I originally found the listing on Craig's list.  I follow a lot of sites and have never heard of this one.   This particular car is a '74 tii that has been nicely re-done and is super clean.  Currently bidding about $16,600 with reserve not met.   No owner or location information, which is odd.  Some of the images of other cars look a little familiar.  I sent an inquiry on a Pantera that looks nice.  I'll wait to see if I get anything back.  If not, the site is probably just a front end.

Here's the link to the car.   Does anybody know anything about this site?

Update: After doing a little more homework, I think this may be a scam site after your ID and credit info.  The images have all appeared elsewhere on eBay, Hemmings, etc.  The phone number, a national 800 type number, not a local one, goes straight to voicemail and the company is not listed anywhere.   The local phone number found on Facebook and Yelp, is out of service.  If anyone else knows about this site, please speak up!

Another update:  The website is registered in CHINA!  SCAM!!!!!!!

Final update:  I reported this site as a phishing site to Symantec, Google and Microsoft and now when I attempt to go there, I get the appropriate warnings from Chrome and IE that pawnauctions.org this is a phishing site.  Amazing that somebody would put so much time and energy into developing a site like this but I have seen some pretty elaborate scams in my search for cars over the years.    I'm guessing that nobody here gave the info the scammers were asking for but would bet that some of the the poor Craig's list people they were praying on probably gave the info because they didn't know any better.

Take care and stay safe!

It opened for me today, too.  Two steps forward, one back, I guess.  Maybe not enough complaints.  Be sure to report it if you want to.

No post-‘72 tii firewall notch...

Yeah this car looks like a re-bodied chassis. No tii fuel pump bracket ( hence the zip ties) and in the trunk the secondary access hole for the fuel pump harness is not in the correct location and/or is suspiciously obscured by the battery strap.

Plus my eye thinks the snorkel area looks a little metal worked too.

but what do I know.

And the fuel filter bracket...

Actually that filter bracket is an "add-on" that bolts to the radiator support, but zip ties work too.

Notice the air cleaner assembly is NOT 74 tii specific.

+1

I think you’ve unraveled the knot....

What’ll we call a “re-bodied tii”?  Unless the “new” chassis also started life as a tii — this one apparently did not — it’s a tii engine, and presumably brakes, boxed trailing arms, etc. in a non-tii chassis.  I’d say this was “well sold” at $32,500....

Best regards,

Steve
