It you want it to sound like a Honda, maybe you should get a Honda.

Remember the racing press used to call BMW's the "whispering bombs"

Cheers!

I've re-placed the muffler with an after-market

brand in hopes to hear the humming of the muffler.

Unfortunately, after installing it, I found that it still

wasn't loud enough (at least to my expectation). Is

there anyway for me to increase its volume without

needing to replace it with another new one? Any

suggestions?

Do as my PO did.

1) Cut off exhaust at bend in front of gearbox.

2) Run thin wall tube (pretty darn thin!) All the ways back past the diff.

3) Attach 14" or so bosal straight thru muffler, preferably backwards so the little cheese grater flukes that are supposed to duct the expanding exhaust gases into the glass fiber in the muffler are there for little more than decorative effect.

4) Reuse back bit of exhaust so it comes out the stock cutout.

5) buy some earplugs for long trips cos u are gonna need 'em.

The end result is bloody loud. Ears will ring if driven with windows open, say @ 65mph for 1/2hr-45min.

Noise meter tells the story. @ 6000rpm, no load, at 10 feet, 96dBA, on lift off, the over run produces a loud chainsaw snarl, @ 106ish dBA.

On load, that is off start line @ hillclimb, at 30m (100ft) It is 87.6dBA.

Prolly not quite what u r after, but if u want extremes, it is all good :)

73 chamonix, bloody loud, still not defected.

75 inka, rather quiet.

WHAT?????? sorry, speak into my GOOD EAR!!!

if you want the rumble and the snarl run headers to pipe to glass pack to tip...period. but you will bust with the noise nazis at laguna seca and other db enforcement places. i added a second glass pack to " calm" things down a bit... the noise massage is muted somewhat, but still set off car alarms. sorry- i dont think you will get the feedback from the system you want with a conventional muffler. ///
