If you install a relay harness, the switch will be treated more gently :)

Working on that, for sure. Though I am also exploring the possibility (via Daniel Stern) of replacing the halogens with LEDs.... A can of worms, I know. But if low voltage and high output are the goal, then maybe LED replacements are the simplest?

Daniel also can supply relays or kits with harness (assembly required),

 

And he has professional opinions about fitting LED's. A proper set up is pricey.

As Ray said, those early cars lacked a relay for the headlight switch so as crumbtrail found out, when you put halogen lights like Hellas with the high wattage bulbs it will fry the switch! Installing a relay is imperative if you are going with high wattage bulbs in those headlights.
