Did BMW 1600 come with flag or trap mirror?

Here is the packing list from my May 30, 1969 2002

Wait...the 1802 existed in May 1969?  I don’t believe so.  This looks suspiciously like the packing list for my '76 (first photo), albeit from before the introduction of the 1502 (mid-1975), and very different from the packing list I have for a January 1973 car (second photo).

Best regards,

Steve

Actually the 1502 and the 1802 weren't produced at the same time.  The 1502 didn't hit the streets until 1975 or so, when the E21 was introduced.  By then the 1802 was no longer in production--at least not in Germany.

And my point, Mike, was that the packing list that accompanied Jim’s May 1969 was not the original packing list for that car.  The 1802 was introduced in 1971-ish, certainly after May 1969.  The packing list that accompanied Jim’s 1969 dates to sometime after January 1973.  Compare it to my January 1973 list — perhaps it’s a square taillight era list.

If you look at my ‘76’s version of this same form, the “02” model numbers have been partially whited out, the form has been copied over, and many of the numerals have been hand-written.  It appears to me that they started with the form Jim has, changed 1602 to 1502, 1802 to 1602, 2002 to 1802, and then added 2002.  The 1802 touring must have ended production, as you say, in 1974.  But the Owner’s handbook that was delivered with my ‘76, a version dated May 1975, still lists the 1802 sedan (photo below).  So perhaps there was some (brief) overlap between the 1502 and the 1802.

Regardless, by the time they used this packing list for my ‘76, in April 1976, the 1602 and the 1802 were no longer in production, and they felt no necessity to eliminate those titles.  My impression is that after production ceased on Euro-spec 2002’s, BMW was very much in a “wind-down” mode for the ‘02 models, and wasn’t too fussy about details...

Best regards,

Steve
