Tommy, your blog (and car) is impressive!

Alex at Restoration Design got back to me with these images of the right fender.  Of course, can't really tell if the marker lights fit, but these look better than the one above.

Thanks!

They do look much better. Mine were like the one above.

Mine from RD went on fine. I was nervous getting the lights back in and not scratching the paint, but I had pre-fit them before having the fenders put on the car just to see if they were going to go on ok. Yes the fenders also take massaging, but we've got 50 year old cars with God knows what has gone on in the past.

My lights kinda  p u s h e d in, probably scratching the inside of the light 'socket' as they went. Who cares? And yes, that long rubber grommet in there is a drain. I reused mine.

These are before paint pics.

NYNick, thanks for the images and info.   I am not very far along on my rebuild and don't want to spend the extra money on the OEM fenders if I can make-do with the aftermarket ones.  Seems like I can.

My body guy made them work. The gaps are pretty good. Nit pickers will ruin everything but I'm not entering the car at Pebble Beach!

the OEM fenders might be a bit better fit,  but at 7x the price I was happy to spend some additional time getting the $128 ones to fit.  Better than fiddling with fixing even the slightest of rust issues on the 45 year old fenders that were on my car!    No fender is going to be a simple bolt on and walk away deal here.

The top of the blinker opening on one side was "bowed" downward. Once unbowed the blinker, complete with new gasket/seal went in with a gentle tap.

Regarding the blinkers.......they look good.

I ordered a set of fenders from Restoration Design today.  I will photograph and share info when I get them.

The fenders I ordered Wednesday from Restoration Design arrived today.  They were very well packaged and 4 days from order to delivery is impressive.  Inner box and packaging says wallothnesch.  These are multi-year, multi-country fenders so the holes for the 74 series bumpers and the US side markers are not present.  (I was thinking about deleting the side marker anyway...)  The screw hole by the A-pillar and the two holes for the knee-high guard trim are also not present.   There are also some very minor flaws with the curve of the fender under the turn signal like somebody was just a little too aggresive with a hammer and dolly.

The opening for the turn signals is not bad but it is not quite as pronounced as it is in the images above that Alex from Restoration Design sent me.  A test fit of the turn signal shows OK fitment, but the light sits a little higher because the body creases are not as pronounced.   I think this can be fixed fairly easily.   SCH_6069.thumb.JPG.4132bbf38f2a82dec4ed6ac056a69b92.JPG

I do not yet have the current fenders off of the car, so I will resurect this thread and compare these to the current fenders once I do that.

Thanks,

Scott
