Crack free dash options (wtb)

The dash in my ‘72 tii was refinished about 7 years ago. Cracks have reappeared and I was wondering whether it is better to look for a used crack free dash or have a professional repair it. What has everyone else done and what are the average costs for both options?

Here's one inexpensive, quickly installed cover-up that works:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dashtop-2104-15013-Dash-Cover-For-74-76-BMW-2002/232685169789?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D50074%26meid%3D7c7d2adcf0984f80ab6b237344f606fe%26pid%3D100623%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D131882834769%26itm%3D232685169789&_trksid=p2047675.c100623.m-1

It works so well that it might take your mind off the cracks long enough to forget about spending a thousand bucks for other solutions.

Says that is for 74-76, is there a different shape for the earlier models?

I believe there are three distinct version of the dash depending on how many pieces  they are made up of, but they all have the same basic shape.  I have these on cars ranging from '71 1600s to '76 '02s.  ALL of them required some trimming and fitting to conform well to the 40-plus year old dashes, but they appear to be sturdy and have lasted many years.

If you check around you can find them for around $80 with free shipping sometimes.

I put one over my dash.  I think I paid around $90 shipped.  My car is a driver, not a restoration, so I'm very happy looking at this rather than a heavily cracked dash.  If were restoring the car, I'd certainly go with the real deal.

It comes with some black RTV. a few dabs will hold it in place. Be prepared to do a little bit of trimming. I had to trim around the glovebox and the steering column area. Otherwise it’s pretty easy.

Looks like they are still available:  http://www.partstrain.com/store/details/Dashtop/Dash_Cover/DAS210415013.html?source=gglpla&gclid=Cj0KCQjw3ebdBRC1ARIsAD8U0V7And0LeJaF4lMV_riOFYtk7l6HoGariIr2wciU3TSIjLVgTEbhj-8aAhCLEALw_wcB

NYTransplant is correct about the fitting procedure.  You have to cut to fit due to each car having a slightly different geometry.  I usually have to trim the front part so that it fits snugly under the windshield gasket and then around the steering column.  If you take your time trimming it will fit tight enough to fit flush without requiring any of the glue provided.  I usually don't use any adhesive.
