A link would be helpful, I couldn't find it.

Edit:

Ok, found one link from 2016.

Yes, Allan, removing the roundel and filling the holes in the trunk lid takes care of that element.

My ‘76 got a new nosepiece and right front fender in 1978, done by a good body shop.  Three years ago, when I was getting price estimates for the car’s first comprehensive re-painting, the two highly-regarded shops — unbidden by me — explained how they would save the car’s rusty right-front fender....because the car was never hit... ?

Sorry guys: that rusty fender dates to 1978, as does the nosepiece!  ?

These were experienced body shop men: no one could detect the 1978 replacements if I didn’t tell them.  That baby got another new OEM fender in 2016!

Regards,

Steve

LOL, that's the car!  :D  Reason I bought this was the vin showed it as a real tii and I understood that it was missing the correct engine.  While I bought this over the phone as I am currently overseas, I had no fantasies that the car was not rusted out with a number of issues, but the car was in New Jersey and not California where most of these cars I find are located.  And as it turns out, I had just picked up a 76 02 last year with a complete 74 tii engine and Getrag 245 that is currently at the machine shop that I was going to restore as a Turbo tribute car.  Needless to say, That engine is destined for this car and the stock motor with the E12 head will be rebuilt as a 318is injected Turbo motor.  Hey, it's a plain Jane 76 so who does it hurt?  Plus I always wanted to know what 180+ HP will feel like in one of these cars lol.  The tii, ergo my anal questions, is beginning to be completely rebuilt to OEM.  I'm having all the floors, rockers, and rust cut out and replaced with new panels, and the body brought down to bare metal for a complete respray back to a perfect Turkisblau two stage paint using modern Urethanes and epoxy sealers.  The PO had removed the grill and clock which he says was missing or lost (haha) so I found them NOS in Germany and ordered them.  Not cheap, but I want this car to be done right.  The only thing I am struggling with now is to put in a 5 Speed and LSD that I already have, or just keep it 100% stock.  Leaning towards stock.  Will be rebuilding the stock motor when I get back, so that puts me back a month on the 76 but hope to have both cars done by this summer.  And the 76 is almost finished with all of it's rust work and ready for paint.  But pretty much a no expense spared restoration on both cars lol.  Yeah, it's a sickness.

You may want to send an email to    info.grouparchiv@bmwgroup.com    they will provide you with the original colour & build date.

The one pic of the engine bay may suggest the car was originally (previously) Polaris (silver).

Already have and they already responded, May 73 Build Date, real tii, Turkisblau, and sold to Max Hoffman in NYC.  But I guess all US BMW's were sold to Max back in the day lol.  The silver inside the engine compartment was some kind of rustoleum silver paint and scraped off easily.  Not something I would do, but it was under all the stuff bolted onto the fenders and firewall, so, I assume they did it when they had everything out of the car.  Needless to say, we will be doing the same thing, but with the correct color and paint.  Just more to scrape off when we go to bare metal.  The fun just never stops with these cars huh? :D

You'll have even more fun if you chose to put the overdrive 5-speed in it!

Check the back side of the "2002tii" emblem mounted in the wrong spot on your Turkis '73--bet you'll find the back side of the emblem is slightly curved, in order to fit snugly against the curved panel to which it's mounted.

The proper emblem for roundies has a flat back so it fits against the flat part of the rear body panel below the transverse trim piece that connects the two tail light housings.  So...you may have to find a new 2002tii emblem with a flat back.  And I'm sure someone out there will want your curved back one.
