How much does the timing retard at high speed on '76 cars? a

My understanding is that the retard function is vacuum controlled, and comes into play when the car is idling or overrunning (coasting, foot off the gas), to reduce emissions.

Your queston sounds like you are assuming the retard is part of the mechanical (centrigual) system, and that is not the case.

Of course, I could be wrong.

or do they advance with the centrifugal mechanicals AND the vacuum, AND retard with the vacuum? Does the vacuum pot vary according to the vacuum? Last question, how does the 318i vacuum system work, I see there is a solenoid, so is that RPM activated?

Anyone know?

I would appreciate any help,

Elliot
