nice car!

BUT

...for 53k I'd want original seats F/B (love the Recaro seats but typicaly the big $$ is going to cars with original seats).

Trunk looks amazing!... but they forgot the vinyl wire cover pieces that go along the sides towards the rear of the trunk. Also the spare wheel is not stock to that year. Small details but I ALWAYS look for those and 90% of 02's don't have either of those. Pelly's car had both those in mint cond.

Stock rims would be better... tii option wheels or steelies and hubbies'

Also ditch the steering wheel for a nice stock wheel...Fat small steering wheels are the great fun... but...

picky picky I know but that's what I'm seeing...original cars = $$

When someone says 'restored' I want to see RESTORED back to original before I drop that dollar

Get ready to reach deep, real deep, like $100K deep.

I'm not nearly the originality fanatic that some are, but for that much money...

I'm curious why they didn't change the upper strut bearings.  The color change of the interior is a personal thing to me, but small things like the strut bearings, improper airbox lead me to questions things like how was the engine rebuilt?  The transmission?  Which parts were used?  Was the Kfish pump rebuilt?  At what psi are the injectors opening?  Not trying to be an asshole, but don't want to see someone get taken...  Fair price for fair work.

Edit; when did the turn signals go from orange to red?  It has a foglight switch with no foglights?  Is this correct?  No clips on the Kfish lines.  Looks like no safety wire on the bottom of the struts...  Maybe put together by someone that's not a 2002 person.  Doesn't necessarily mean it was done poorly, but there are some details that are missing- and for all the money?  Stock wheels, stock seats.

OP, it's all just little details.

I believe this is the same car parked next to my tii at the 2009 Deutsche Marque Concours in Vienna, VA.

I've seen an older picture of this car together with the owner in the BMW CCA NCC magazine that has the pointed front overriders.

From what I remember, this is very nice tii.

Same car?  Same owner?   Perhaps.

Yes, same car (2762946). Buck Cording owned it in 2005, which I believe is when he bought it. As the above states, it was restored in Yucaipa, CA.

I've inspected tii VIN 2762630 (the actual first '73 off the line); it has aluminum runners and the 2.5 mph bumpers (pointy front bumper guards, and the heavier, "spaced out" front and rear brackets.   Oh, and red center tail lights were only used on '68 and '69 US spec 2002s--and earlier 1600s.

In this case the factory wouldn't have used up previous parts, as those 2 1/2 mph bumper requirements were mandatory with the '73 models.  And...I've never seen either a Malaga or Agave car with a black interior from the factory, although I suppose if it was ordered directly from the factory (and not through Hoffman) most anything was theoretically possible...

If we're picking here, it is spelled Concours, not Concourse, okay?

For such top dollar, I'd certainly want this tii to be as original as possible. This was clearly pieced together from several non-73 2002's over the years. (which is okay....... but not for a 'show winner.') As the 2002 becomes more sought after, originality is going to be more and more important to those who are shopping for a 2002 that's ready to show and go.

This is a 1973 model: the new U.S. model year, for BMW and most car brands, ran from approximately September 1 to August 31. The first 1973 U.S. tii is VIN 2762630, manufactured in October 1973.  BMW Archives records cars on a simple calendar year basis and does not characterize U.S. model years in its records. VIN 2762946 was, indeed, manufactured within the 1972 calendar year, but any U.S.-spec tii from 2762630 onward is a 1973 model, ending with VIN 2764521 (manufactured July 1973). My records show that VIN 2762950, 4 cars later, was manufactured November 2, 1972, so I’d guess this car, VIN 2762946, was manufactured either the same day or just before November 2.

The switchover from plastic to aluminum runners — and 121 head to E12 head — began with VIN 2761944, in June 1972. This changeover began and ended within the 1972 model year. By August 1972, all U.S. tii’s received aluminum intake runners and E12 heads. Thus, this car is correct with aluminum intake runners although, to 1936spyder’s point, the center section of the air box is from a U.S. 1974 model: it has a bracket for the vacuum limiter valve only found on U.S. 1974 models.

Never saw an Agave with black interior. Always saddle or tobacco from the factory.... Below, the January 1972 all-models, global paint and upholstery brochure, with concordance table of exterior-interior colors and color images of both.  K14/20 is the all-vinyl interior we expect on a factory Agave car.

Enough trivia!

Good luck with your sale,

Steve

And I extrapolate that VIN 2762267 was manunfactured just after July 10, 1972 (since my old parts car, VIN 2762204, was manufactured July 10, 1972). Do you have the specific date from BMW Archives? If not, email your VIN to info.grouparchiv@bmwgroup.com.

Firewall notch?

Steve
