Broke Key in Ignition- link for new lockset

My key broke in my ignition and we can't get it out. I tried searching but can't find where I can purchase a new one.

 

Also, does anyone know if a new lockset can be reset to accept the key for the doors (original key).

Last time I checked the ignition tumbler is not available new.  You can use any tumbler though and have a lock smith key it to be compatible with the door key.

If you can get the tumbler out, a locksmith can extract the broken key and cut a new one.

Any locksmith worth his salt can drill out the pin that holds the cylinder in place, remove the broken key, rebuild the tumblers (not necessary if they weren't damaged in the first place) and reinstall the cylinder. Just call around. Tomorrow I'll send pix that will help.

Thank you everyone for your replies! This is all great news and I'm relieved that my original ignition is salvageable.

I drilled the pin that held it in place. Any idea where I can get a new one?

New or different? Plenty of used. Hell, I've got 2 or 3 entire steering columns with keys. I have a tumbler with key as well.

Here's a picture of the complete assembly (underside view) with a cylinder alongside. You drill out the semicircular, hollow pin from the hole and remove the cylinder.

 

The locksmith can provide you with a new pin. It would be good to get a couple of different sizes because you'll not know the precise size you'll need until you go to drive it in. It compresses when driven in and holds by friction.

 

If the lock is old and you want to keep the car, it might be worth a rebuild now even if it seems O.K.

schuetz1619- Yes, thanks for the info on the pin.  That is exactly what I did..just didn't do such a clean job drilling.  Hopefully it is still okay!
